To OP, one PT has no indication on how you'll do on the real thing. Similar to you, i bombed PT89 before my Oct. Flex, but still end up scoring in the low 170s on the real thing. Trust the process and the hard work you've put in - they will pay off in Jan flex for you!

Looking for RC drill study buddies aiming 175+

Hi 7sagers, I'm looking for 2-3 study buddies to drill RC detail retention. This uses a drill method from LSAT Hacks website: basically we time each other when reading a passage. After reading, one person asks the other about main point of each paragraph and tests randomly selected details in the passage, such as where the details locate and purpose of the detail. Then the role alternates. This should be helpful for people who have done most passages and look for increasing RC speed/retention. This should take about 1-1.5 hour per session.

Some background info: I'm based in the UK (had a 170 from october Flex and hope to break into 175+ in Jan). If you're interested in serious studying for similar goals and trying out this RC drill, please feel free to pm me. Best of luck to everyone!

PTB.S3.Q14 - Rationale for punishing criminals

If you have done this passage and got Q14 right, would you mind explaining your thought process? The passage says "the second rationale is that a punishment is justified by severity of a crime." This leads me to interpret that the consequence (severity) of the crime matters to punishment. So I was looking at C and E. Can someone who has figured out this question explain where I went wrong? Thank you!

Some thoughts responding to the dispute on Q21: B - the passage doesn't answer wether the themes of jazz have influenced the themes in Invisible Man, because the main point of last two paragraphs is (in contrast to the critics) Jazz provides a model for understanding Invisible Man. The parallel between Jazz and the novel is not about one "influencing" the other per se (the passage never states the novel borrows themes of Jazz). Rather, the parallel proves that Jazz provides a way of understanding the novel. It's about Jazz providing ways to understand the novel, not whether the novel has borrowed themes from Jazz. Once you see why the author brings up Jazz, it's pretty clear that the author doesn't answer the question in answer B.

The analysis on question 15 answer B is spot-on. But just for future LSATers who study question 26, the reason why C is wrong is not that the conclusion compares unarmored lake Stickleback with their armored selves (B and C both point to the difference between armored ocean sticklebacks and unarmored lake sticklebacks). Rather, the stimulus wrongly extrapolates the relationship of having an armor as a defense for ocean sticklebacks to the relationship of not having an armor (bigger size) and defense for lake sticklebacks. Not having an amor might have nothing to do with defense for lake sticklebacks.

To weaken the stimulus, one needs to explicit 1) having armors or not (being bigger or not) has nothing to do with defense for lake sticklebacks; or 2) lake sticklebacks are fundamentally different from ocean sticklebacks in their defense needs, and thus their bigger sizes do not contribute to defense purposes.

C tries to weaken the stimulus by the second way but fails to do so, because answer C doesn't explicit the link between "being preyed upon by insects more" and "having bigger size being a better defense". To make C work, one has to make an unwarranted assumption that lake sticklebacks being preyed by insects more often doesn't make larger size a better defense.

In contrast, the right answer B explicits the link - having a bigger size (not having armors) is mainly for surviving in cold winters (not for defense purpose), unlike ocean sticklebacks' need for armors to defend against predators.

Congrats!! So exciting!

Would you mind please sharing your PT schedule and particularly how you break the mid - high 160s plateau? Thanks very much for your consideration.

Why not D? if (D) wasn't true and not all scientific investigators received a grant, then wouldn't that mean serendipity can play a role in scientific discovery? Since they would not have to make clear projections and disregard info not directly related to their research.
