I messed up RC on the June exam. Walked away thinking I did pretty good but ended up getting 5 wrong on the last passage alone and -8 for the entire RC. I was PTing -2/-4 on the recent PT’s

That is exactly where I started when I first did a RC section almost two years ago and after many long hours of studying it didn’t do me any good on that exam.

In the process of studying I have completed every single PT except for PT 83.

What do you guys think is the best strategy for now until the July exam?

Thanks!

One that, "appeals to a premise one would accept only if one already accepted the truth of the conclusion." I know there is a circularity in it, but can someone give an example, in non-abstract lsat language for me? That would be amazing lol thanks!!!!!!!

You cant get a 180 on the lsat unless you study. Thus, if you get a 180 on the lsat you must study.

Since you’re making “stupid mistakes” maybe your brain is just a bit tired. I would try taking a couple of days off, refresh your mind, then review some of those “stupid mistakes” to make sure you don’t do them again, and then do a practice test the following day.

Thank you! Appreciate your advice. How long of a break do you think I should take?

Score Decreasing! Help

So after finishing through the CC I took my a practice test about a week ago and was very pleased with a score of 171. Since then I took three more practice tests and have seen steady decreases in each PT. 168, 167, and most recently a 164. When I do BR I can regularly get in the high 170's. Sometimes I feel really confident and am ready to answer any question the LSAT gives me no matter how hard it is but I don't know why my score has been decreasing and it has been kind of demoralizing lmao.

When I do the BR I can easily see my mistakes are just really dumb but I keep making those mistakes on the next practice tests. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

In my opinion the strategy that works best for RC varies a lot depending on the person. I’m not totally familiar with PowerScore bibles RC strategy but it wouldn’t be a bad idea to try both methods over a period of time to see which one works best for you

I took PT 84 in June and like you I was scoring in the mid 170's and scored much worse. My RC score on it was my worst ever. I'm also taking it in July LSAT and according to Dave Killoran from Powerscore it will probably be an undisclosed test from ~5 years ago. RC from those tests is easier in my opinion.

High 140’s to 176. You can do it!

Congrats!!! That's amazing. How long did you study?

So if I take the lsat on a later date there is a chance that I will be seeing questions that I have already completed as a past experimental section?

Off the top of my head:

83-1-22 might be kind of what you are looking for.

Will think on this, if anything comes to mind later I will edit this post.

Thank you! This is the flaw I was looking for.

Example of this Flaw

Does anyone have an example of this type of Flaw as an actual LSAT question.

The flaw is something like ~The argument explicitly goes against what author stated previously. Not sure if I'm coming across clearly but if you know what I'm talking about can you direct me to an LSAT questions where this flaw is used.

the reading comp passage about scientific journals and the internet, anyone know if that was experimental or real

I had that passage on my RC experimental. With a passage about Canadian/Native Americans and also had one people’s perceptions of punishment (scales of justice vs utilitarian)

I can’t remember the other experimental RC I had.

I remember the words “academic derision” but not sure if that was in the real RC section or the experimental

In my experimental RC I had a passage about Canadian/US Law & Native Americans. I can’t remember the other 3 in that section at all. Did anyone else have this passage and can remember what the other passages were about?

Dave killorian thinks it will be a -10 or -11. Im not sure what that’s worth but there ya go. I think a -10 is probably right. The RC and LR were challenging even with a cookie cutter LG section. Just my take- I have no expertise in this whatsoever.

According to him he has been rarely off by more than 1 point in predicting the curves

I had one RC and didn’t really think it was too bad besides the last passage. Everything else was easier than I expected. Hopefully the LSAT gods give us a favorable curve

yeah real games was the one with WXYZ and the bonds. I had three LR as well...brutal just in the fact that it's so much LR but I didn't find any of the three sections to be crazy difficult. Hard to know how I feel about this test haha. Unfortunately the last game on LG kind of tripped me up so I had to guess on two questions because I ran out of time. Otherwise not too bad. Don't know how to feel about RC.

I feel about the same I think. The wetlands question in LR was really tough I thought. There were some weird ones. Overall it wasn't terrible, though.

Do you remember more of what the wetlands question asked. I don’t remember it.

Im not a professional at giving advice on the LSAT but I think you would benefit most from practicing speed on LG. You could try doing LG sections in 30 minutes instead of 35 minutes so that way you can get fast enough to the point where you can spend that extra time on the hardest section. This has helped me to the point where I rarely get anything wrong in the games section.

You could also try to see which LR section is giving you difficulty and see if you need to warm up or practice your endurance. If the latter then you can try taking 2 practice tests back to back on the same day which will make a single PT feel like a breeze.

Doesn't that mess up the PT for you though? For example lets say I choose section 3 for PT60 to use as my experimental for PT61, when I put that section into the exam I'll see what order the exam is, and I'll know which one is the experimental and which one isn't.

I don't put it in the PT for that reason. If I'm taking a PT I'll have the experimental PT printed completely and then use a random # generator which will tell me which section will be the experimental. When I get to that # I put away the real PT and pull out the experimental PT so that way I don't influence myself by looking at the order of the sections.

Yeah I do 4 section PTs. I haven't figured out a way to do 5 section PTs without robbing myself of some aspect of the exam. If I create my own 5 section PTs, then I end up knowing which is the experimental as well as the order that the sections are in, and that messes up the PT for me.

I tried to add an experimental from PTs 1-35, but I can tell the sections apart from the actual exam due to the differences in LR/RC/LG.

I do a 5 section PT by choosing a preptest that will be my experimental for my next 4 lsat practice tests and doing that in order.

For example: Take PT 55,56,57,58 and for each use a sections in PT 59 as experimental then Blind Review the experimental treating it just as you would if you are taking an actual PT.

Confirm action

Are you sure?
