Advice to 7Sagers from a Former 7Sager

Dear 7Sagers,

I had the Ultimate+ membership and I applied to law school during the 2020-2021 cycle. Like many of you, I lived and breathed 7Sage, and I devoted so much of my free time to mastering the LSAT. I read the message boards, took the practice tests, and interacted with the community. I remember reading posts from people who complained that they couldn't get past the 165 or the 171 marks, and I always rolled my eyes but secretly, I was worried. These posts made me feel stupid. I felt as if I was doing something wrong because I was struggling to break the 150 mark. Also, I felt at a disadvantage being first-generation because everything was new to me. No one in my family was familiar with the law school process but thankfully, I knew some attorneys, through work, who gave me phenomenal advice.

Eventually, I realized I had to do what was best for me and not worry about other’s success, which was easier said than done. At the end of the day, as long as I knew I did everything in my power to excel, then I could not be truly upset with myself. From November 2020 until now, I’ve learned so much about the admissions process and I want to share it with others but, I know no one either law school-bound or contemplating it.

Given this, I decided to document my experiences and advice (see the link below) to those who may benefit from it. In all, it’s a decent read but it’s amazing. I’m biased towards myself so take it with a grain of salt.

If anyone has any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. Considering I no longer use or check my 7Sage account, I’ll do to the best of my abilities to respond.

Happy reading and I wish you the best of luck on this journey! Also, thanks for taking the time to read this post.

Sincerely,

LSAT Learner-1

Can someone explain what J.Y. means by “remember the structure,” if you’re struggling with the substantive details?

I think I understand but want to make sure I’m correct.

I am interested as well. I sent you a private message a few days ago and I haven’t heard back yet. I feel I should post my email address (considering that’s what everyone else is doing) but I’m unsure because this virtual study buddy thing is new to me.

What does J.Y. mean when he says he went into the passage "cold?" And, how do you "warm-up" before reading a passage?

Yeah, any tips? I find myself running out of time or only getting to 3 out of the 4 passages.

I feel Q6 could have been worded better because by "argument" I didn't know if they were referring to the passage's argument or the author's argument.

For Q1, I omitted AC B because it said "...does not fit neatly into their preconceptions about the life...." I saw the "life" part and felt the passage didn't speak about Davis's life - it spoke about his life as a musician. As such, I don't see how AC B is correct because the passage didn't discuss Davis's life and whether or not he did something right or wrong.

I thought I did horrible on this passage but got 4/5 in the timed session and a 5/5 in the BR. Gotta read quicker but definitely gonna rejoice in this small victory!

Question stem #3 was so hard to understand and I definitely eliminated AC A because I didn’t know the word “eschew,” smdh

I feel the AC for #5 requires more background knowledge about "Their Eyes" unless I missed something in the passage?

Does anyone recall the lesson that introduced the difference between Strengthen and MSS questions? It was awhile back and J.Y. went over the flow of direction with both question stems.

Also, with Strengthen questions, if “if” is used in the question stem, does that denote the question is a Strengthen one whereas with MSS questions, “if” isn’t used in the question stems as much?

A link is greatly appreciated :-)

I felt the same way too but I remember an earlier lesson that J.Y. said “but” and “and” mean the same thing; and when I replaced the former with the latter, the AC made sense.

How would you wreck AC A?

I eliminated AC C because when I wrecked it (negated it), I turned "impossible" into "possible" and when I read it back, the wrecked version didn't hurt the argument.

“But this behavior is hardly unprofessional.” I feel they’re saying the behavior isn’t bad but the coach took it as a critique hence why AC B is correct, right?

So, "is often" represents an opinion, and is also a "some statement?"

You're trying to figure out how the Critic's response to the Advocate is flawed. In other words, what type of flaw argument did the Critic employ when they responded to the Advocate.

I eliminated AC E because the stimulus said, "...this drug has no serious side effects." If this is the case, how is AC E correct?
