I got almost perfect RC, missed one, because I misread the question. Was it easy for you too? Shoot me any questions!

For me, after I read every paragraph, I would pause and summarize in my mind quickly for 10 secs. Like wait- what was that about? If I’m reading a passage with theme I’m not a fan of; I would just remind myself to look for structure and ways of reasoning and not be carried away by the gritty details- not yet anyways. However, most “thesis” passages will hinge on a lot of MSS and evidence based questions so be prepared! ESP science passages - so save time for these...
As for the answers, if an answer choice looks too good, it may be it- and go for the subtle one unless the passage is extremely one sided.
And verifying my answers in MSS is very important- do not rely on your memory! That was what was causing me points- I would be like- oh I remember and just circle and move on- but now I verify. Sometimes MSS expects you to make a leap and it can seem far fetching but I think most answer options are out of scope - so go by POE. when you read, read with an active mind. Something like, on this is the thesis? these are the evidence ? and oooh I bet they will ask about this weird process!
Some people go extra and highlight code their parts, like yellow for thesis, pink for evidence and orange for dates/quantifiers but you don’t have to if you train yourself to look up things fast.
I miss 11: why did JY said that Cognitive Interview contains eye closure but earlier on he sorta said its separated from each other. I didn’t get that inference
Conclusion: environment has little impact on teenagers playing sport. Support: look at family and siblings and schools. Look at who is speaking, it is an educator and you can see that he/she is using limited examples. How to weaken it? Bring in alternative large scale observations, how about society as a whole? If it varies society to society, decide by decade, environmental reason should play a GREATER role. (Because genetics would likely not affect this decade by decade..., because that means a whole new breed of atlehtic kids would be born, one decade,an completely non atlethic kids the next decade..? This usually takes more than a decade.
I hate weaken question because YES it requires you to make further inferences especially the ones in the 16-25. Eliminate out of scope answers and think deeply about ambivalent or ambiguous answers.
Here is my process and explanation. First rephrase it to simple terms: conclusion, human activity have a great large scale effect on weather. Premise: during weekends some industrialized urban areas tend to be cloudier.
Then it rules out an alternative explanation, the 7 day natural cycle. POE rules out other answers, none is as close as E, although that one is confusing. As said in previous comments, if you negate that,it breaks apart argument: if natural weather pattern does Not have 7 day weather cycle, it has 7 day cycle cause. This goes against the flow of our argument because the premise indicates that is DOES NOT occur in 7 day cycle, it happens during weekends, and it also rules out 7 day weather pattern.
But if you don’t like negating because it doesn’t always work, remember the negating destroys the support which kills the conclusion rather than the conclusion directly. Also focus on structural reasoning, which in this case, the author ruled out 7 day cycle as an explanation for the strange weather pattern. Does the fact that it occurs it a “few” times rule it out? No it needs additional support!!!
thanks for sharing, I"m on the same boat as Sami and hopefully will reach a similar shore! much congratulations to her!
Hi, I am sorry you are at a downward slope. I do think your hypothesis has some points. this is is supported by my life experience going from an 160 official LSAT to an official 153 and 159, after a long year of studying. It can be very devastating, especially if LR is the one that you count on lifting up your scores. Standardized testing is a cruel punishment for those with learning barriers, access to tutoring, loopholes with disability testing with people with twice more time (who personally confessed they don't need it)..... I am not fan, which doesn't help my motivation. Flex added, doesn't not help all.
we can't change the game, you just got to beat it, so you must make gains in RC and LG (can be done dramatically). other option would be to wait until it's paper again or when LSAC removes LG (which is supposed to happy in a few years). Goodluck and bless your studies! I'm scoring mid 165s and making my way to 170s now. U can do it!
From someone who got -1 on the RC, on the real test, YOU DO not have time to write summary. However, keep in mind of main ideas, I call this STRAP, Structure, Tone, Reasoning, Argument and Purpose. Make sure you get the gist. Comparative passages (gotta actively compare as you READ), science passages (you don't have to memorize things but know where to find stuff AND UNDERSTAND what the details mean) and humanties/social sciences may seem easy but they can trip you up, READ the questions carefully.
Most important, YOU GOTTA BE ACTIVE, and train to read fast but still manage to see shifts in details.
See email from LSAC:
You registered to take the LSAT on October 28, 2019.
You have now been assigned to center 23121 - SHERATON NEW YORK TIMES SQUARE HOTEL II to take the Paper LSAT.
Your admission ticket will be available for printing 14 days prior to your test date through your LSAC online account.
I saw a post on Reddit but that person is still confused.. Is anyone experiencing this??
thank you!
@ there seems to be a trend towards math/econ in the LSAT questions within FLAW questions which I missed the majority. For example see lsat 85. 15. Flaw. Time to look up youtube videos on econ and math basics
@ has your score improved since you taking more breaks? It seems to do the opposite for me, I'm a full-time student and employee so perhaps too many things got in the way of my break, it's not a break. Thank you for your candid opinions on your strategies btw
wow, thank you for your responses! I appreciate them so much!
Hi, my scores have been fluctuating for the past three months. It would go as high as 170 and low as 158. This month it went from 158 to 167. For example, like today I got a 160 on lsat 85 but I got a 167 on lsat 38, I got a 164 on lsat 84 but a 158 on LSAT 68.
My RC is the only thing that is consistent (75% correct) but my LR would go from being 95% right to 65% and vice versa but for LG. Has anyone experienced this and how can I be more consistent? Most common answers are 1) lack of focus 2) you got easy sections 3) don't take older tests. What do you think?
I say, think about the schools you're applying and see if you fall within the outlier scores or 25%. 25% is good enough, if you have great soft skills. I know people at Harvard with a 163. I see a huge in your scores and you can use this to show about progress.
I went to the LSAC forum in NYC and asked the representative about this issue, he was pretty nonchalant about sharing this, he just shrugged.
We have discord group for anytime interested and we plan to BR test prep 70. DM
take a preptest 5 section- good environment a week before it to see how to do. lsat lets to cancel or reschedule the night before. a practice test a few days before will likely be your score +-2/3 points.
thank you for those interested in making a pact to defeat this LSAT. I added you all to a group message and let's go from there.
Hiiii. I been studying on and off and now making gains to mid 160s, after graduating and eliminating extracurriculars. im hope to find a few study buddies who are interested in working together to push to 170s. LR is my best, i make careless mistakes on LG, and RC is minus -7. shooting my shot. hope we can help each out during this rigorous process.
im down, message me!! :)
i don't understand how b is right #help, i thought conclusion said computers suck bc humans' knowlege is based on xperience, not stored as rules, not about knowledge itself #help
this is math reasoning,.pick answer that makes total lending less than what i was 5 years ago.
here's an analogy to make it simplier. currently, the amount i pay for apples is higher than what i sell for large supermarkete ( buy for $2, sell for $1). also, currently, I am not selling apples to supermarkets that are not large, so im not selling apples to small and medium supermarkets as I five years ago. therefore, total supermarkets that i'm selling to is less than five year ago. i will not sell apples whose prices are lower than what i pay for.
Hi! I'm a student at columbia, open to studying session
#20, and right answer depends on your OUTSIDE knowledge that satires means
"the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues."
because a "brief comic statement" doesn't do justice. I would love to petition for this question to be removed.
here is my attempt at this question, you got to reword it. the conclusion said the claim is False, and this turns the negative claim to positive, so "writers who write in order to give pleasure: CAN impart truth." then comes the reasons 1) if that is not the case, you can judge book based on sales/popularity which means it gives pleasure and that means some details are not true.
NA is hard because there's honestly so many ways you can assume, i would say look for language shift and what follows after the insidious comma, which is pleasure in order to and just pleasure by association so D close this gap by saying that pleasure can only be intended. don't just look at the conclusion, but rather premises for these tricky ones.
I had a dinner with a law student who got a 178 on the lsat. He talked to me about how he prepared for it and I’m curious if these points resonate with other top scorers as well and share them with others. He studied by himself and said that he always tried to figure out the solutions once he finished the test without going online, he also told me to not worry about the LR question types, just focus on conclusion, premise and evidence. He also did all the preptests, 3 times each. He also read books with topics he was unfamiliar with. He broke down so unfortunate truths in which familiarity/expertise helped him in reading comp as well as how good you are at math helped with LG. Just curious of these tips/insights helped some of you as well. I know everyone is different im their approaches but there has to be some common insights right? For those scoring in low 160 what was that one habit that helped you get to 170s......??.
Thank you!!!
I was WL by HLS. Really happy!
If anyone has experiences of what it is like to be on wait list for HLS schools, LMK.
Already submitted my LOCI. My favorite professor at Columbia University (got an A+ and worked alot together this year) wants to submit another letter of rec because she did not write one since i was not done with her course during my application period. Even tho HLS generally advises against this, should I do it? Should I call them up to ask or just send in a compelling LOR?
I had an RC repeated so I know which ones are real LG. LG yes had Venezuela and Uruguay as well as shelves being stacked.
