This question proved to be incredibly challenging for me. Could someone please define how the argument used two different uses of the term "selfish?" Thanks in advance!

Hello,
The different uses of "selfish" stem from the fact that the first use of the word "selfish" refers to only caring about oneself, phrased as "selfish individualism", while the second use of the word "selfish" refers to helping others to benefit oneself, phrased as a "selfish concern for the human species." The reason this is a flaw is because the author tries to argue that "selfish individualism", which can threaten the cohesion of society, can be used to characterize all periods of time, but then he lists an example of selfishness that involves benefiting the human race, which is not only not "selfish individualism", but it more than likely improves the cohesion of society instead of threatening it.
Thank you!!!!! @SSBM1000
