Hello, I was going through JY's list of common flaws, and under the flaw "experiments to reach a general conclusion" he talks about how with experiments to reach a general conclusion you must include a control group, and a baseline. Could someone give me an example of a "baseline" ?

Thank you so much !!

I think a baseline functions in a similar way as a control group, it’s just inherently different. So if I say that 100 mg of caffeine causes the heart rate to drastically increase because test subjects had a heart rate of 130 after being administered the caffeine, that’s not enough. I would also have to tell you that somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 bpm is a normal heart rate. Without providing that baseline, who knows if 130 is high or not?
