For weakening and strengthening AC, must the correct AC always provide independent doubt/verification upon the likelihood that the conclusion holds?

    Yes. But specifically doubt/verification that the specific premises stated in the stimulus support that exact conclusion. It's the support we're attacking or boosting. Like the adorable anime character J.Y. describes in the CC - Goku (?). His laser gun is the support between the premises and the conclusion and we're either thinning the beam or thickening it. Because we have magical superpowers.
