Applying to many schools

Is it bad to applying to a lot of schools, what are the downsides to it? Do schools know if somehow has a lot of applications to other places?

    Former admissions officer here. It is a good idea to cast a wide net and apply to a range of schools. 7Sage admissions advising suggests at least 10 schools with a balance of reach/target/safety schools. Given the continued competitiveness of the pool and the holistic review process, applying to a range of schools ensure options as your cycle progresses. Schools will not know where you are applying unless you tell them. Good luck!

    I'm applying to 14 schools and I might even add more. I'm on the west coast and I just found out that many of the schools in this region have $0 application fees so why not shoot my shot
