My fellow June Test-takers!

Please take a look at this tentative schedule below and comment your thoughts/revisions. I also have a TON of “notes” that I’d like you to consider. Please leave any thoughts about them in the comments below. You should also add me on Skype. My username is dmlevine76 .

NOTE: We’re trying to organize some 2-3-Hour interactive workshops with 7Sage tutors during the month of December. They’ll be on specific fundamental topics like Blind Review, Finding Assumptions/Flaws, and Active Reading. Be on the lookout for another discussion within the next week as we try to organize this. However, if you are interested in attending, please say so in the comments below. Also, if you’d like to suggest a topic, leave that info in the comments section. It’s all new, so we’re trying to make sure we’re matching up supply with demand. If they’re successful, I’d like to continue them into January.

NOTE: We’re starting at PT 29 because we have so many extra weeks. It’s true that many of the questions from the problem sets will be in these tests, so we really need to take those scores with a grain of salt. That being said, it’s still good practice.

NOTE: I front-loaded the PT 70s for Fridays because I believe that people need to get eyes on 70s sooner rather than later. We’ll still have PT 77 available to PT in May. Trust me when I say it is worth it to do these tests twice.

NOTE: Friday’s attendance has been hit-or-miss. I’ve been considering I AM changing Group BR days to Tuesday-Thurssday-Saturday. Tuesday and LSATurday would be the regularly scheduled tests and Thursday will be the “wildcard” day. Please leave your thoughts in the comments.

Note:

    <
    JUNE TEST GROUP.

We’ll now use GoToMeeting for all of our Group BR needs. Simply click this link to join the scheduled BR: https://global.gotomeeting.com/join/239503069.
  • For everyone: take the PT under timed conditions; BR as you are able; join us for all or part of the call—everyone is welcome.
  • Note: For the purposes of the call, we like to check our group blind review score together at the very end of the call :) So at least don't say ... "No guys, really, it's D, I checked it.” If you know the correct answer, keep that information to yourself. Win the argument with your reasoning.
  • These groups work best when folks from ALL stages of prep and with all different goals join in! Not just for "super-preppers" and definitely not just for the casual LSATer (does such a person exist?).
  • The only expectation anyone has for these calls is for you to have fun and ask questions as you desire. We are just a bunch of LSAT lovers who gather via GoToMeeting and intellectually slaughter each test.
All times are PST

Hello. Thanks for setting up the June 2016 Blind Review group. I do have some feedback/suggestions below:

    1. Do blind review on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays to avoid doing blind reviews on Fridays.

    2. Consider changing blind review time on Tuesdays and Thursdays (or which ever weeknight we chose) from 5pm to 6:30pm or 7pm to give the people who work a regular day job hours (9am-5pm or 10am-6pm) some time to get home first if needed. For example, a parent may need time after work to go pick up his/her kid right after work so they will never be able to join the weeknight blind review group because of the time. This will also increase the number of people who will be able to join blind review group.

    3. Is it possible to adjust the blind review schedule to include BRing prep test 77 as well?

    4. I am very interested in having topic specific sessions on flaws, sufficient and necessary assumptions, Most/some/valid and invalid arguments, and active reading.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for the feedback. The only issue with that is the times are PST, so 5pm PST is really 8pm EST. If we moved it to 6:30 PST, then east coasters wouldn’t start until 9:30 EST, too late. If we moved it to 6:30 EST, then it would be 3:30 PST, too early.

I believe it is already scheduled in, although I am debating doing it at an earlier time in the schedule than it is currently listed.

Of course, finish the curriculum first. But you could try to do the fundamentals workshops. Note that we don’t start PT 36 until Jan 9. You’ve got some time to get through the curriculum.

Dave! You are so on top of this! THANK YOU!!!! I'll probably be hopping onto this too... as you might have been able to tell, I'm jumping off of the Dec train (still trying to figure out what my game plan is from here on out..) But definitely looking forward to more BR calls with you and the gang!

I think the Friday BR schedule for me-- in general it's always an issue of trying to complete the the PT, and have enough time to BR the test on my own, do the group BR and then get in any kind of review or refreshing for topics I'm struggling with (I know this portion will decrease with more practice)-- and trying to do that for most of the scheduled PTs in that week! Granted, my schedule is a bit more flexible so I'll just fix my schedule based on what the majority of people want to do.

On a side note: I wish 7Sage discussion area has some kind of iCal/Google Calendar function where we can just easily post all the BR sessions and whoever is subscribed to that calendar (that BR group) would get notifications or reminders on the site as to when the BR is-- this would take a lot off the BR leader's hands! As always, thanks Dave!

@DumbHollywoodActor this is PERFECT! I am so on board with this study schedule for preptests. I will join for the 72+ in the early and late batch, and I will join you all to do the BR sessions from preptests 39 onwards!

Also, one inquiry I have is I am using the Cambridge LR bundles from preptests 1-38 and am using them during my course of the curriculum and while I am doing preptests, I will be drilling them. I don't know if everyone will be using Ultimate+ (I only have Ultimate and thus don't have PDF versions of the problem sets) or some people might be doing the Cambridge LR bundles to drill with, but if the latter is true, I would absolutely LOVE to review the problem sets with other people!!!

Also, question types I would absolutely LOVE to have lessons from 7Sage tutors or sessions with would be: Assumption questions, point of issue, strengthen/weaken, and flaw. But for me personally the one question type I would love, love, LOVE to see are the necessary assumption types. I have not familiarized myself with the necessary assumption methodologies that 7Sage/Trainer teaches, I usually use the PS method and I get very confused sometimes with the correct answer choices. I will definitely be done with the curriculum by end of January, so I am very excited for these BR sessions.

Thank you for setting up this schedule. I'm interested in joining the June BR group. I'm only working part time while I study, so my schedule is pretty flexible. I started studying in August and have done 8 PTs, but since my scores are still in the 150s, I'm considering going through the course again and maybe rereading the Trainer-- so not sure if I'll make the first couple weeks of BR, but I'll be in touch.

Based on the chatter I’ve been getting, I’m going to revise this schedule from Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays to Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Fridays have been hit-or-miss at best. I was thinking Tuesdays and Thursdays will have a very consistent PT schedule, but LSATurday will be a wildcard: we could do a Workshop or a PT in the 70s, etc.... I won’t institute this change in the schedule until January.

If this is something you really don’t want us to do, now is the time to make that opinion known.

@DumbHollywoodActor, I think Tues - Thurs - Sat is much better. Also, what is (or should be) the plan for those who also decide to test in Oct / Dec? The schedule for June accounts for every PT. I suppose one can skip several PTs, or just take the even numbered ones? I ask because my first write will most likely be in June, and assuming I have to write again in Oct/Dec, I want to make sure I have material to work with. Send me your thoughts. Thanks! :)

I have the expectation that I will have to take the test again in October and maybe December. I am planning to keep 3 pristine PTs for the October test, just in case. For December, unfortunately, it will have to be all re-takes.

The schedule accounts for every PT so you can decide which PT you’d like to skip. I’ve also put a lot of TBAs in there if people have special tests they’d like to re-take or if they’d like to specifically request a fundamentals workshop. Plus, I think it’s critical to re-take at least 3-4 PTs in the 70’s.

Retakes, lots and lots of retakes (paying no attention to the score). Also, I’d do lots and lots of BR groups. My goal would be to squeeze every bit of learning I can from each question. But no doubt it will be scary only doing 1 new PT per month. I suppose you could save more. My problem is I’ve already taken 25 PTs from the new era. (If I knew then what I know now--that this was going to take well over a year--I would have started at PT 1 and just gone in order all the way to 35, really getting a good feel for the test before I ventured into the modern era).

I am in generally, but I wouldn't be able to join any of the weekday sessions because I work until 5:30 pm PST and don't get home until 6. Suggestions?

Also, I recommend you keep all the June Study Group information consolidated in one forum topic. It is very confusing trying to find current and complete information with 3 to 4 different topics on the same content.

    @Mookittyy welcome!

You can come and go to the BR groups as you please. They usually run around 3 hours and usually start off slow (sometimes, it takes over an hour to get through the first section).

The BR groups and the workshops, though organized both by me, are two separate entities. One is a group who get together to discuss particular PTs. The other is a webinar-like workshop, centered on a particular fundamental topic and lead by a 7sage tutor.

Thanks! BTW - how do I "mention" someone in a post so they get a notification? Just adding the @ in front of the username?

Also, if I did want to jump into a workshop or BR session that is already underway, what process would I take to get there? Very unfamiliar with online group things and Skype, etc.

    Thanks for your help!
  • DumbHollywoodActorDumbHollywoodActor Alum Inactive ⭐

@Mookittyy yes you use @ then start spelling the name and then highlighting the person you wish to mention. You can also quote people by highlighting what a person says and then clicking the "quote this" bubble that appears.

For BR groups, you need a Skype account. Usually, at the beginning of the week, I'll make a summary post alerting everyone of upcoming BR group conversations. I'll also make a forum post on the actual day of the BR group. In both posts, there will be a link you can click. To get into that specific BR group, all you need to do is click that particular link.

For workshops, which are very new, we use GoToMeeting. They have a 25 person limit, so we've been releasing the link (just like Skype) to get in about a half hour before it starts. The details of the workshop are still in flux, so I'd advise checking the forum once and a while to stay abreast of the situation.

The forum is a bit of a rabbit's hole, but it's chock full of lots of nuggets of wisdom. You might want to set aside a few hours one day and just take a ride down the rabbit's hole. Welcome.

The BR groups should be for everybody. Would a Sunday BR Group be well attended? We could add that to the mix if I thought more than 5 people would attend regularly...
  • MaritzaaMaritzaa Alum Member

@DumbHollywoodActor, If i can chime in on the weekday schedule... I've never been on a BR call before, but given the time conflict, perhaps we could ask everyone attending what questions they would like to go over before the BR begins. Maybe we could tally those questions and select the ones that gave almost everyone a hard time. It could possibly cut the time down from 3hrs to 2.5/2hrs? If so, then we could start the call at 9P EST / 6P PST and end before midnight / 9p? And anyone who wants to stay on the call can go over any other questions they have. I'm located in NYC, so I am happy to start later so long as we get through the questions that everyone struggled with first.

As for weekends, I think we should start early, like 11-12p EST / 8-9a PST. I think it's best to just get it out of the way so that we can try* to enjoy the rest of the weekend. :)

Again, this is just a suggestion. I really appreciate all the time everyone has put into this. Sooo very helpful!

No... you took what I said to someone else out of context. Dave was encouraging others to chime in on the tentative schedule. Am I not allowed to do that? Yes, my suggestion could be totally off (and you could be right), but in no way does it imply that I am not appreciative of what others do.

And your comments aren't always warranted; maybe when they are encouraging and/or informative, but definitely not when they're borderline offensive.

Sorry if my comment rubbed you the wrong way. But again, I am really appreciative of the extra time and effort that people have put in (including you) to help others with the process.

I am going to definitely make as many calls as possible regardless of what the final schedule is. Looking forward to getting the June session started.

We've never had the opportunity to try this out—would you like to volunteer to coordinate the effort? The BR calls run because of the volunteerism of community members such as yourself! It could be nice to try something new but of course we would need your help to do so.

@DumbHollywoodActor Thank you for the offer, but that's not necessary. I wasn't griping about the time or anything like that. Work is work, nothing we can do about that. My comment was merely stating that my verbal involvement would be limited on the calls because of the distractions in my background. I can't help how others took it as I was simply stating a fact. I could picture a system that would poll people as to which questions they'd like to cover, but I hesitate to recommend this as it would considerably increase timeload for all involved (not just whoever's organizing the call, but also for the users). Furthermore, a lot of the benefit I've personally gotten from the 40+ BR calls I attended was of a rather unexpected sort—a question I didn't realize I'd missed, for instance, and would therefore not have known to flag for review.

The logistics of such an approach are a bit intimidating; I recognize that my one-off idea for this is not the only idea and would like to hear what other folks envision for streamlining the calls (if such a goal is universally sought). While the benefit of shaving .5 or 1 hours off of a call is certainly attractive on the point of folks getting to bed earlier, I wonder if this consideration overemphasizes the pedagogical return of the calls. That is to say—for me, these calls were as much about camaraderie as anything else. Attempting to squeeze all of the extra minutes out of the call would seriously jeopardize that function.

But, @Mitzyyyy — why not join a call or two and see what you think? I'm all about innovations making these calls easier and more enjoyable for all involved! Thanks for your input and look forward to having you on soon.

@DumbHollywoodActor If I could put my vote in to keep the 70s from 72 onwards (I didn't see 70 or 71 listed earlier in the schedule), I adjusted my prepschedule to include those in my first few weeks of PT's.

@JURISDOCTOR35 Thanks to the 7Sage community, the BR calls are now on GoToMeeting, DumbHollywood actor posts every week with the sessions and the link to join.
The following link will explain how to find the PT's. If you have the ability, I highly recommend getting the PDF versions if Cambridge website still provides them.
