I think the more succinctly you can make your personal statement - without losing your voice - the better. The readers have to read hundreds if not thousands of personal statements. Make your personal statement interesting, but easy to read too :) -

Don't mention politics at all in personal statements. Delete all mentions of politics, social justice and anything culture war-related from social media. Actually just delete all your social media. You never know who you're dealing with. -
