Application requirements
A statement no longer than three typed pages (double spaced, 12 point font, one-inch margins). Through the personal statement, the Admissions Committee seeks to gain insight into the abilities, motivation, and experiences of an applicant and to assess his/her writing ability. An applicant's personal statement also should explain his/her specific interest in pursuing a Juris Doctor degree at the Boyd School of Law at UNLV.
This section is optional. An optional statement (no longer than 2 pages, double-spaced, 12-point font, one-inch margins) addressing the applicant's background, including any i) disadvantages, ii) lived experiences that inform the applicant's view of the law, iii) past service and/or leadership in the applicant's communities, and/or iv) the applicant's plans to their law degree to address the needs of underserved communities, that can help assess the applicant's potential in the study and practice of law.
This section is optional. All part-time applicants must submit a brief statement describing the reasons why they are applying to either of the part-time programs.
This section is optional. Should you wish to provide any additional information that you feel the Admissions Committee should be aware of, do so here.
A descriptive résumé listing employment, honors, publications, extracurricular activities and community service. If you were not employed or not attending school on a full-time basis for any period of time, indicate dates and how your time was spent.
If you answer "yes" to any of the following questions you must provide a statement describing your actions and a detailed description of the arrest, charges and/or sanctions against you. A "yes" answer to any of these questions does not necessarily adversely affect admission, but failure to disclose relevant information may lead to disciplinary action by the law school or affect your admission to the bar. Include full details, including relevant date(s) of the incident(s), status(es) of final disposition of the charge(s), and the name and address of the authority in possession of your record. You are strongly encouraged to err on the side of inclusion rather than exclusion in answering these questions. It is common for bar examiners to ask questions that differ in depth, breadth, and/or scope from the character and fitness questions above. In addition to a bar examination, there are character, fitness, and other qualifications for admission to the bar in every U.S. jurisdiction. Applicants are encouraged to determine the requirements for any jurisdiction in which they intend to seek admission by contacting the jurisdiction. Addresses for all relevant agencies are available through the National Conference of Bar Examiners. It is also common for bar examiners to ask questions about character and fitness-related conduct after an application is submitted. If your response to any of these questions changes between today's date and the date of your graduation from the Boyd School of Law, you should disclose the relevant event to the Boyd School of Law when it occurs so that the law school is in a position to assure character and fitness examiners that you have satisfied your obligation to disclose character and fitness-related information in a timely manner.
- Have you ever been subject to sanction or discipline by any academic institution, or do you have pending any charges which could lead to discipline? (You do not need to include sanctions stemming from academic probation or academic dismissal.)
- Have you ever been arrested?
- Have you ever been convicted of a crime or adjudicated delinquent, or are there any criminal charges pending against you? (You need not report either juvenile matters for which records have been sealed or minor traffic violations.)
- Have you ever been, or are you presently subject to a disciplinary proceeding by any professional organization or licensing body?
- I understand that once I submit my application, I have an ongoing obligation to notify the admissions committee in writing within 48 hours of any conduct that might cause me to amend my answers in the Character and Fitness section of the admission application.
- Did you use artificial intelligence (AI) to help prepare any part of your admission application, including your personal statement, lived experiences statement, addenda, or other materials?
- If you answered "yes," explain how you used AI in the preparation of your admission application. (maximum characters 350)
