    C: Mistaken reversal.

    Conclusion: Absurd ( Grant implies successful ).

    Premise: ( Successful implies grant. )

    We just switched the variables around the arrow, without applying the appropriate negations. Also note, that simplification is after applying rules having to do with the "without" logical indicator which renders that "No" in front of scientist obsolete.

    We need the answer choice that states the same thing in two ways. One way being the normal (absurd) way, and the other way as its contrapositive.

    A: Correct answer.

    Conclusion: Absurd ( Not arrested implies not breaking law )

    Premise: ( Breaks law implies gets arrested ).

    This is an accurate statement of what a statement and its contrapositive should look like.

    Really tough question. I stared at it for about 7 minutes, splitting hairs between answer choices.
