Do you think that a diversity statement/ personal statement can use too much of a "creative language" style language? Should you be worried about how you are describing a situation to sound/ use too much of creative words that may make it sound too much like you are writing for a book? Not sure if this makes sense.

It makes sense. If you are talking about Canadian schools, I would avoid "creative language" and go for just a more straight forward approach at addressing the given topic of the statement.

I guess it depends if the creative language style detracts from the message you are trying to get across with the diversity/personal statement. If so, then probably. If the message is clear then I'm not sure it's an issue.
