Absolutely recommend doing the foundations first. Go through the lessons thoroughly and in order. I still use those foundation skills (finding the kernel sentence especially) when I'm stuck between answers more so than any tricks I picked up during the LR curriculum. It's basic but makes an incredible difference in timed conditions.

I would suggest finishing the foundations fully. Since you are taking it in October you have lots of time to study drills and do PT and other non curriculum studying. Doing the foundations part of the syllabus helps with terminology and methods you may come across in the LR and RC sections of the syllabus.
