anybody have any tips on how i can improve my timing on RC? I’m hardly ever able to get through all 4 passages during a timed PT. i usually have 1-5 mins left when I get to the last passage :/
@futurelawyerhopefully hmm thats interesting. i've heard mixed things about reading more during free time. has that made your accuracy better or just helped increase the volume you're able to read at a time? i dont have an issue with volume i majored in english so im used to reading A LOT. for me its more about speed. i can read fast but sometimes that can cause me to miss a few things here and there. and when i take my time i usually get -0 on the passages. but that is the issue... i dont have unlimited time so i cant figure out what to do in my situation. i do agree with the interest part tho. making a an effort to engage with the passage by wanting to learn something new or being curious has helped a ton!
@emoneyy Okay honestly i stopped doomscrolling on reels and tiktok...idk if u scroll often but it conditions ur mind to get information but not process anything. I am 3 days sober and it seems to be working pretty well
The key to a faster RC is literally just to be able to understand the passage better in a shorter amount of time. And the best way to do this ironically is to practice slowing down when drilling. Spend 4-5 mins in untimed drills before going to the questions, even if you finish in 3 mins force yourself to make low res summaries. The more you do this you'll find that your reading ability will actually get faster. Its like learning how to walk before learning how to run
@TheBigFatPanda yea this totally makes sense bc if I really understand the passage I fly through the questions. I noticed I spend the most time on harder questions where I have a decent understanding of the passage that require a FULL understanding, so then I have to go back to the passage anyway
This definitely will not help-- but its literally JUST practice. It's such a hard hump to get over, but the more you do it, the faster you will be. I personally find when I am ignoring the clock, I am usually fine with the time; I just focus on accuracy
@emoneyy i do a mix of both! I see the value of sometimes not just doing timed practice, because it is very important to understand the methodology behind questions, and you will not get better at it if you just jump the gun and stress about time. Just gotta keep building and mix it up!

I find reading books in my free time helps also convince yourself that you are interested in the passage
