Hello. I a bit conused on the deadline for the argumentative writing portion of the LSAT. I am taking the LSAT in June and applying to a program with a deadline of July 1st. I know the writing portion opens 8 days before the LSAT so today, but can I take if after I take the LSAT or must it be before?

Not only can you take it after, but you SHOULD take it after. I would suggest not even to think about until after your test date.

You take it on demand from home, so there is no need to pre-register, and the essay is not scored or graded. It is simply approved or not. The approval is somewhat of a rubber stamp so long as you follow the prompt's instructions and write relatively clearly and "professionally". You recieve approval within a day or two of submission and the approval immediately applies to your CAS Report, so your score transcript is instantly ready for release.

Bottom line: Focus on the test only now. Come Sunday June 7, take a look at the argumentative writing portion and plan to submit during that next week, maybe aim for Tue/Wed/Thurs and your good to go. The one thing you want to look into is the security/proctor specifications. They're available on the website, looks like parmesan posted the link below.

    Good luck on the test!

@SCOTT_LEBO Thank you so much, this is so helpful! So as long as I complete it by the weekend after I should still get my score in time?

@Naya_D Absolutely you will. Here is a proposed timeline:

Monday June 8: Research the FAQs.

Tuesday June 9-Thursday June 11: Practice (2-3 hours total)

Friday June 12-Sunday June 14: Register, Write, Submit

Monday June 15-Wednesday 17: Receive approval notice from LSAC, no more action needed on your part.

Just make sure you explicitly respond to the prompt and follow the instructions given. The only real risk of not being approaved is not responding directly to the prompt.

You have a year after your test to take the writing portion, but know that they won't release your score until you do!
