🙃 Confused

Reusing LORs

I applied the previous cycle but I wasn’t happy with the results, and decided to study and retake the LSAT and earn a higher score. My question is am I able to reuse the same letters of recommendation that I had used last year at the same schools I had been rejected from?

And to build on RobertCarlson's advice, admissions officers don't really expect new LoRs from reapplicants as long as the LoRs are from the previous admissions cycle. Here's what I mean:

    • You applied last cycle and are using the same LoRs: totally fine!

    • You applied three years ago and are using the same LoRs: ... meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeh ....

You may also consider another option which is to reuse one of the old letters and submit a new one from a boss/supervisor you've worked with for the past year+.

    Hi Adam,

Great question! Yes, you can definitely reuse the same letters of recommendation as last year. If there have been major updates, you might ask your recommenders to update the letters, but otherwise, they remain valid and are still available to use on your LSAC portal. In any case, you should let your letter writers know as a courtesy that you'll be using their recommendations again.

Admissions officers differ from school to school in their advice, but in general, they'll expect updated essays and definitely an updated resume to accompany your new application. When it comes to letters of recommendation, on the other hand, they're generally fine with you submitting the same letters as before.
