Hey, like the tittle states I will be travelling for 2 weeks due to the loss of a grandparent to a foreign country and I am having trouble conveying my worries to my parents that my score will decrease significantly when I return. I will return 2 weeks before the September LSAT but I will also be starting my courses for the Fall and working on campus. My first question would be, is there anything better to do then just downloading practice tests and trying to do sections when I have free time. Secondly, what is the best way to wear off the rust of not having been able to study consistently for those 2 weeks before the LSAT? Thank you for any advice!

That trip and time off may be the best thing for your score.

I took the LSAT twice. The first was directly after studying, and I scored one point below my cold diagnostic, four points below my prep test average, and eleven points below my prep test high. While it was still a good score in isolation, it was crushing.

I signed up for a retake. I did absolutely no studying except some Adaptive Drill questions the week before. No prep tests or heavy work at all. I basically ignored the existence of the test as entirely as I could, trusting that I knew the concepts and that stress and anxiety were a major part of my initial disappointing performance.

On the day of the second test, I walked out convinced I had totally failed, as it felt awkward and I had flagged far more questions than normal. When I got the score, it was a 178.

Sometimes, it’s the studying itself that’s holding you back and the best thing you can do is step away, let the stress go, and trust the work you’ve already done. Let the material solidify and settle in your mind and let yourself calm down.

Good luck to you. And I’m sorry for the loss of your grandparent.
