😖 Frustrated

Reading Comp Struggles

I feel like I am almost there with the LSAT. I had a few months where I was getting -8/-10 on RC sections and then I really honed in on LR and am sitting at a -14/-15. I dont know what I am doing wrong - I try to read for structure but have a hard time grasping on content without getting super bogged down in detail.

What are some things people did that seriously changed their RC. I tried Bailey's method with highlight but then got WAY to focused on highlighting (and its super time consuming with the new interface update)

Please help me! I rescheduled my August LSAT to September - anythings helps

◡̈ Thanks

I don't do low res, I just highlight. Yellow - author's opin, pink - everyone else/the related facts of their opinions/beliefs etc, underline (formerly, now just a different color) little facts to remember that I feel like they might ask me about. If everything is highlighted it's almost like nothing is. Be selective, the whole sentence doesn't have to be highlighted to get the point. I don't switch a million times within sentences. Keeping it simple and easy to refer back to when referencing has helped me be between where you were at to now -3 or -1. Also, just reminding myself it's only usually 4 paragraphs and that is short enough I can fake/push myself to be interested.

I also struggle with RC after focusing on LR! Have you tried taking RC untimed? Eliminating any of the timing pressure and just looking to see if you can understand the content and questions! Reading for structure is really helpful for speed, but it requires you to be familiar with the question/passage types to know what kind of details to look out for and which ones to move on from.

With the new interface update, I ended up giving up on highlighting and am only using it very sparingly for important details and tone shifts. Some people say that not highlighting is helpful, so you can try that as well!

Honestly I know I am in the minority for saying this but low res did not work for me at all. I kept feeling like I wasn't doing it correctly and it ended up making me more stressed about my method of reading rather than actually reading. And I get super distracted by the details of the text so what has worked for me has been just pushing through my confusion and reading the text as a whole, then after going back and understanding what was being said. I know you are supposed to not read past a sentence until you fully understand it but, for me, it has been more helpful to sit with my confusion until the end. So I think if you have the time, you should try other methods that could work for you, everyone is different so don't force yourself to do another method that isn't working.

I would imagine you are now taking 150s prep test and before were taking much older ones?
