Just to add on to what others have said, you can check out everyone's app instructions from last year on this page on our website. We'll update this in the coming weeks for this year's apps.
There are a variety of different essays that each school may require. Often it will be "why law school" etc, but it can be different essays, you cannot fully predict it.
Just look at the schools you're applying for and see what essays are required. And you can kind of brainstorm in advance the sort of stories you want to tell that put you in a good light.
If you had a weak semester or year academically and have context to share, criminal record, disability, family situation etc or have anything to disclose in addition you can start working on the writing for that.
You need to research each individual school on the "application" section of each law school website. A lot of schools have individual essays or essay prompts that you can submit with your application. I've been keeping everything on a spreadsheet because it's hard to keep track of everything.
Some schools, like Stanford, need your transcript from overseas study abroad programs. Also, an addendum might be needed to explain anything odd concerning your transcript or resume.
