Hi hi. I took the test twice last year in Oct and Nov, and got a 159 and a 158. I took a year to study and did the August test and got a 160 today — my PTs were in the 167 range. I was so crushed this morning, it was rough. I’m taking it again in Sept, very nervous. I’ve been trying to do everything recommended for anxiety (I meditated, got a therapist, etc) and I felt okay on test day, so this lower score feels like such a setback considering I felt less panicked than last time. I also have a tutor and I have been using 7Sage after moving from Blueprint so I feel double the set back in a way. Anyone have any recommendations on how to combat test-day anxiety and just overall disappointment + recommendations on next steps? Thanks!

I haven’t studied since the August test and the Sept test would be ideally the final time I have to take it.

Hi there, I’m sorry to hear how tough that 160 felt, especially after all your hard work and those 167 PTs. I want to reassure you that this doesn’t mean your studying, your tutor, or your move to 7Sage was a mistake. I would say that your PT scores are strong indicators that you’ve made real progress.

Since you mentioned feeling calmer this time, I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that anxiety was the only thing going on. Before your next test in September, let’s try to figure out what’s causing the gap between your PT scores and your official test score. I’d suggest taking a new PT under strict test-day conditions. Then, ask your tutor to look at your pacing and decision-making, not just the questions you miss.

When it comes to anxiety, the goal isn’t to feel totally calm. Instead, it’s about having a plan for what to do when nerves show up. Try to use the same routine every time you practice. If you notice yourself starting to spiral, pause for a breath, skip the question you’re on, and reset. Also, your break since August probably wasn’t a bad thing. I’d recommend easing back in with some targeted timed work and careful review, rather than trying to cram everything in before September.
