I find it really helpful to make use of the different highlighter colors. This is more when reviewing because it takes time, but I use the different colors during timed practice as well. I will often do this when I'm stuck between two to three answer choices. I assign each one a color and then search through the stimulus and highlight whatever I think is relevant (either supports that choice or is wording that implies the answer choice isn't the right one) in that choice's color. Then looking at it all like that clearly highlighted distinctly helps visually for me to see the patterns more clearly and weigh the pros/cons. This is really helpful in RC especially for me, but I've done it in LR too.
I'm a huge visual learner. I diagram during questions that I struggle to understand in my head and I think that helps a lot. I would not suggest always diagramming, though, as I think that would be a time suck
