Hi. When practicing untimed RC sections I am right where I need to be in terms of my score, and normally am only over by a minute or two for time. When I do a section timed however, I miss double, and find myself using half my allotted time for the first two passages. I turn the timer off to try to help stress, but doesn't seem to work. Any other tips? Thanks!

1) on your first read through, quickly skim it just so you are at least able to figure out the main idea and figure out what the different view points are. When you get to the questions, that's when you really start to read more thoroughly. 2) The search function is your best friend. 3) If you are finding yourself stuck on a question, try rereading the question and the answer choices. Like 50-60% of the time, you are gonna be stuck on a question because you didn't read the question correctly. 4) Highlight words that indicate specific opinions or suggest that certain ideas are supported/unsupported or conclusive/inconclusive.
@emf.laa how do you specifically use the search function? RC and time for me needs serious attention!
I noticed that I coast and tend to go slower on my first two passages, just because I have the time. I reordered my passages, now I do 2,3,1,4 and this makes me budget extra time for harder passages by default!
I used to have the same issue, taking my time for the first two and then scrambling for the last two. What I do now is do the first passage to warm up the brain, then the last. Finish off with the second and third. This has allowed me to consistently give 8-9 minutes per passage.
