🙃 Confused

LOR academic vs work

Is it better to have two academic LORs or one academic and one work related? I graduated this May so I think my professors do remember me pretty well still. I will definitely have my thesis advisor write on LOR but I'm not sure if the second should be from my boss or another professor. Are academic letters generally more valuable or is it better to diversify?

You can really go either way! The key is that admissions officers will want to see at least one academic letter. If you have two, that's great! But if you decide to do one academic and one professional, that's also great! This won't affect your chances of admission at all.

Hi! As a recent grad, I think 2 academic LORs are generally preferred because law schools prioritize proof of academic and writing ability. However, if your work experience is significant (or in a law-related field) professional letter adds great value.

I was in the exact same spot and couldn't decide, so I submitted two professor letters and one employer letter for schools that allowed three. If you can only submit two, go with two professors unless your manager can write a far more detailed, compelling letter than a second professor.
