So, the score drop won’t be a problem because the scores are in the same neighborhood. It’s like saying that the temperature outside is 62 vs 64 - sure, one is warmer but they’re effectively the same.

The bigger question is the retake in January. The number one rule is to apply when your app is at its best. If you have reason to believe that you can do better AND if that score boost would make a difference (ie, from below a school’s median to above it), then that’s a calculated risk you should consider.

    Good luck!

Just reiterating the other comment, not an AO, but they are close enough and likely even in that same band range. I think if you are okay with the 164, I would apply now rather than waiting until February. No need to put urself through the BS again but if u think/ want to score higher , do it!

I am by no means an admissions person, just a fellow applicant who has done a lot of research. I have heard that a score drop that is marginal does not really harm your chances. They only use and report the highest score (most of them). My understanding is that since a 162 and a 164 is the difference between a question or two at most, it does not meaningfully indicate you are less qualified than you were previously. I'd admit you!

Keep your head high and best of luck :)
