🙃 Confused

Should I retake a 172?

Please stay with me I promise I'm not trolling, I'm curious if I should retake a 172. For context, my gpa is around a 3.6, my softs are t4 at best (been unemployed and a substitute teacher), weak undergrad, orm, but I'm aiming at hys and t14 so I really want a good LSAT score to make up for my gpa/softs. I have 4 more tests and am currently testing around 170-175, and I'm not currently signed up for November so id have to take January, although I wouldn't mind delaying a year to push up to 175+. Would aiming for a 175+ improve my odds at these schools? Or is it a waste of time/have a marginal impact on my odds?

I'm not an admissions expert, but from what I know that could make a significant difference at the top schools. Given that you are already capable of getting a 175 and your ability to be patient and delay a year, I'd work at getting that score up. Even if you are able to get into one of your goal schools this cycle, you may be able to get much more merit aid next cycle if you're above their median LSAT. I'd maybe apply this cycle to the ones where you've already hit the medians. But keep studying and practicing until you're PTing more in the 173-177 range, and then take a couple more shots at official scores, with the expectation that your full cycle will be the next one unless you get a great offer from those handful of schools this cycle. Definitely double check this with an expert, but you have a lot of flexibility that you can take advantage of.
