is it okay to have my 2 page personal statement, then add a page on why berkeley? or do they also want to see an additonal why berkeley supplement? i'm struggling to get my PS to 3 pages, so would love advice!

Just confirming that this is the basic "life hack" advice I give to folks regarding the Berkeley PS. If they want 3-4 pages, the easiest way to bulk out your normal personal statement is to give them school specific material. What's an added bonus is that their optional Why Berkeley is specifically framed so as to NOT be about academics. So that's signaling to me that that information is totally fair game to bring into the PS.

  • Hi! Because they say that they want to see a "why Berkeley," but do not have an additional place to submit it, that's exactly what I'm doing. Basically just tacking it on to the end of my 2-page PS to make it about 3 pages.

I believe in the prompt they strongly recommend that you cover Why Berkeley in the ps. It's usually not too difficult to integrate this, especially if your ps is one that is gearing up towards 'why law,' which Berkeley also recommends.

They technically have an additional 'Why Berkeley' optional, but it's focused more on the location and the environment rather than the academic elements.

    Follow the instructions.

Conduct within legal systems requires conforming to the institutional procedures.

If you don't follow the instructions and can't deliver the requested material; it could look bad on your profile.

Some admins say they throw out any extra pages and refuse to look at them. Law rule 101: Follow the instructions.
