I think the format / question kinda changed. This used to refer to Line 6 to 8: "At first sight, utilitarianism seems plausible—what else should we do but try to achieve the most satisfaction possible for the greatest number of people?". So D was obvious.
"—but the theory has some odd consequences.". but if we factor this in, I think it makes D wrong.
I feel like this question is harder if you decided to read the remaining answers because they are confusing.
My two cents: Whether something is in the passage and you can't remember, I think you should decide:
Based on what you read: can you make a strong inference that this AC would not be discussed or supported by the passage?
If you can't remember BUT you can make this strong inference that it's not discussed, then it's fair to eliminate/move on.
But if you can't make this inference, then you should totally go back to the passage.
@Mary Thanks for adding it! I actually like that its kind of "hidden" so it feels like test conditions and I'm not tempted to pause when things are difficult ha ha

Good reminder to read the question stem thoroughly... feel like without the passage being highlighted, this would take like 15 seconds to actually trace...
