I felt like B didn't make sense since the stim didn't mention whether the change in temperature increased or decreased. It just mentioned the error occurred due to a temperature change.

That was the reason why I didn't like E as well. It seems to imply still the microwave is what caused the pockets of hot zones. It didn't mention it occurring with the conventional method.

Can someone break down the cookie-cutter wrong answer choices a little bit more? I chose both A and D, I didn't fully comprehend the explanation although the smoking example did spark the idea that I had the wrong idea in mind logically.

Chose D timed and switched to C on blind review :( this one was really tricky, I thought the "other minerals" could explain the algae growth. D was a great answer but I thought it wasn't good enough since it only gave one example related to Diatoms (which was only one example as well). I didn't realize one example was enough though.

It didn't feel right since the stim didn't mention anything in the "best" category but I realized every other answer had no support from the premises. Yes, that's where your error occurred. Like mine, I assumed, the "cosmic rock" raised the dust and caused the dimness to occur.

There are many assumptions made in that statement alone

1) cosmic rock - does it equal cosmic dust? (we don't know)

2) Did this situation lower temperatures (we don't know )

The stimulus also mentioned that the dust had to be a certain thickness to create the effect (lower temperatures)

3)Did the dust raised create a thick enough cloud (we don't even know if it created a cloud)

Therefore, D could be eliminated based on the several assumptions we're making. It just tells us it doesn't give us information in support of the information climatologists believe.

I hope this helps, I also overlooked D and assumed it supported based on a couple of assumptions.

Agreed, I'm still having a hard time understanding D. Even with the knowledge that D bridges the premise from the conclusion.

I agree that this question would have been a lot easier if it were MSS. I liked E but felt it was wrong since no direct language explicitly stated it. But I chose D and learned why it was incorrect.

#Help I'm still confused about what "preventable factors" answer choice A refers to. I feel like I'm missing something. I understand why it's correct but the "preventable factors" throw me off.

It appears the only "link" in the stimuli was pollutants In the water.
