@discipline1717 LR: Stop sinking time on questions I didn’t understand and just move on.
RC: spend longer reading the passage and absorbing info.
@Bev7 not really, it didn’t really click with me and from what I’ve seen, RC is finding what works for you as opposed to a formula. I like summarizing as I go and using the summary as mental jot notes to answer questions.
@Bev7 while that’s true, I also know from posts on here and a couple of friends that have had diagnostics well into the 160s. Seeing numbers like that while you’re struggling to even comprehend questions is not fun 💀
@discipline1717 Learning what I needed to do for my timing. After I generally started to have better timing I was more consistently getting 160s and with practice/review I’ve learned where my own logical gaps were which helped me push into the 170s.
@MnM I think for LR, my biggest tip would be learning to stop sinking a bunch of time on harder questions. After like 2 minutes, I’ll give it my best guess and move on or very rarely, I’ll leave the question unanswered and just come back after the rest of the section. Also for LR timing as I’ve practiced, I’ve learned to recognize patterns in easier questions a lot quicker, letting me answer them faster. This helps so much with the harder questions funnily enough since you have a lot more time to work through them.
For RC, I kid you not, I went from like -7 to -3 just by slowing down my reading and just translating each sentence into my own words as I go. You’re able to answer questions more consistently, since you’re more familiar with the stimulus. Even if you don’t know exactly what you need from the stimulus, you’ll often have a better idea where to look which saves you from scanning a bunch of stuff unnecessarily.
Hey y’all, posting this because I know something I personally struggled with at the start of studying was having a low diagnostic and I was also stuck in the low 160s prison for a while. I’m happy to say it’s not the end. While it takes a lot of time and effort, it’s definitely possible to improve a lot with this exam. So keep at it and you’ll do great!

@MnM Thanks! If you want more advice on RC or LR, feel free to send me a message.
