i struggled with this one and so tried putting in a different subject into this same format and found it very helpful:
instead of iatrogenic disease and doctors, i used Old houses + risky contractors
City has lots of old, unsafe houses.
Each year:
About X houses are lost because contractors mess up big repairs.
About X are lost from all other causes (age, rot, storms, foundations, etc.).
Researcher’s claim:
“If we could prevent all contractor mistakes, we’d cut the number of houses lost per year in half.”
Flaw:
Those houses needed major repairs because they were already in bad shape.
Even if contractors never ruined any houses, many of those same houses would still be lost that year from:
structural failure
storms
rot, etc.
So the argument ignores that:
Houses not lost to contractor mistakes may still be lost that year to other causes.
Which is exactly LSAT answer (C):
People who do not die of one cause may soon die of another cause.
Predicting the answers before I look at the choices. Just getting in the habit of that has made an enormous difference for me.
