I chose answer C because the text reads "Box office figures help little, for they indicate only a film's financial success or failure." I'm assuming that the language used in the stimulus, especially the word "only," indicates that the success does not depend on whether the audience finds it funny, frightening, or moving. The word "only" got to be as the question is asking for "most strongly" supported, which I guess is a hint to look for a more definite answer.

I was thinking between D and C, but D sounded more unsure to me. Also, for me, the conclusion in this stimulus is the first sentence: it was generally hard to determine members' responses to a particular film.

The answer analysis for C says, "we don't know what could cause a film's success or failure at the box office," but the stimulus already says the only determining factor is financial success, so that part was also confusing to me...
