I am getting in the habit of timing myself for each question i do by using a lap timer. My speed is a real issue, and the technique works for me. On this question, it took me longer to do the question than it took for JY to explain it ... I'm hoping i was just distracted and missed one of my lap timer entries, because that's just embarrassing. On a positive note... correct answer for all the right reasons. Huge progress from when I first started.

I should be an LSAT Writer

... and some of you may feel the same way. Here goes...

Do you ever feel like you have 2, maybe even three correct answer choices you can defend, and as correct answers, that's how you might even have phrased or hidden the correct answer choice. Bingo! apply now. Or we can start a consulting group to LSAC and give opinions on how to screw candidates even more. Although in at least my case, I would not have to make anything up. I would be writing from the heart, and with good intentions, and my attempt at formulating correct answer choices would probably just make the test authors chuckle, and then they would stick it in as answer choice E, you know that answer choice we pick because the first 4 looked like crap!

Thanks for joining me on my study break. :-)

For those of you on the call today, here's another good example of an age effect vs cohort effect flaw question:

Here's why I believe I would be a great test writer. I could come up with a bunch of answers that I would think are correct answers, half-assed believable too, but completely wrong, and generate tons of wrong answers in the process. LSAC would get their money's worth. You'd still need someone to generate correct answers ...

... after a passage like this. #NotGiftednorTalented

ok, done venting. Back to work.

More war stories? Excellent. Misery needs company and a light at the end of the tunnel. Ha. I know I am not alone, and that we can overcome. Thanks to our event hosts for taking the time to share.

I'm hungry, for an LSAT writer's head on this one. OK, maybe hungry for a lobster too. And from the discussion on this question, it seems like I (and you) have good company. I could not find a good answer because of my bias embedded in the question, which then made all answer choices seem unreasonable. We care about the people... people. We are not PETA on this one.

Thanks Vanessa. I have (well.. mostly) run out of Freakonomics and 99PI stuff for my workouts. I was thinking there had to be something out there. Perfect. Wish I had looked earlier, so your post was great to see.

Meeting JY in person...

Quick study break thought... I wonder ... should I ever get the chance to meet JY in person, maybe something like a 7Sage Ashram retreat (which probably operates more like a happy hour), if JY would speak to us at 1.2x. I find 1.44x quite unnatural, but also I'm quite impatient at 1.0x speed for the wisdom as well.

NYC Coffee for Applicants

My name is Mark. Ill be travelling to NYC for the week next week and would love to grab a coffee with a few cohorts. I'm thinking Monday afternoon, 2pm-ish, but I am pretty flexible. Sort of a nomad for the week.

A little about me. 49, my oldest is in the city for his Masters degree work at Juilliard. I just (emotionally) finished taking the LSAT for the last time, so I am one of those that is working with what they have. (This test beat the crap out of the CPA exam I have to say, and that exam lasted for days not hours).

Whether you are seasoned, or fresh out of school, it makes sense to me to reach out and share stories, strategies, or just general fears.

We can target a location as we get closer.

And to save the discussion boards some clutter, we may move the convo "offline". I'll keep checking in periodically to see if anyone's interest has been peaked.

In case you are looking for company ... I had my "score" cancelled before I left the room. 2 things though ... 1) I have only been at it for a little over three months with the 7sage course. (no other prep counts once I learned the 7sage way). The June test will be the 7 month mark for me. The jury is out as to whether I am really ready at that point. Leading into the Feb test, the practice tests I did were a) way less than I had originally drawn out on my compressed schedule b) way worse than I had drawn out, and c) I still can't find the handicap scoring table for Senior Citizens (I am 48) so I am competing with a much younger crowd, so I should just double everything anyway, and especially practice testing. And 2) Feb is not released into the wild, so I figured I wasn't burning a practice PrepTest opportunity anyway.

Truth is, I was still nervous as hell. I was a complete shit show in there, heartbeat and all. I started attacking the games section immediately, and the soothing voice of JY picking apart the question stem and setting up the Game boards helped some, unfortunately he cant get you very far from there. HAHA.

This is in no way a testament to the difficulty of the Feb Test. There are definitely harder games out there. But for those that feel like they are less than half way there ... there are more of us out here than you think. Recommit after a break and forge ahead for the June test if you are so inclined to bite off 3.5 months of prep as your next milestone -- you are not alone. I hope to meet you in study groups.

"Now, please could everyone wiggle in their chairs like this [proctor demonstrates the "wiggle"]" so we, oddly, do, and various chairs start squeaking... and then re-positioning begins. then.... resume instructions ... [hand raised] a protest "[turning to the girl next to her] I'm so sorry, I hope you don't ....but ...[back to the room of 50 people, and directed back to the proctor] "her chair is just a little bit of a distraction"

[girls moves to next seat]

[Proctor] "young lady, could you wiggle your seat for us" ... [squeakle sqeackles] ... [moves again]

[rest of room takes rigid zombie status for next 4 hours]

she eventually found a quiet home but ... I don't know how you recover from that drama.
