I deleted my first comment on accident, but my confusion is coming from understanding the main difference between modifiers and referentials. On an LSAT question, our job is to get down to the kernel of the argument, so aren't we going to be using these methods interchangeably? Or does it all depend on the question stem? Also, number two confused me a lot.
This helped me understand my previous comment :-)
