Thank you for the explanation! I wonder would an answer be correct if it says M-HP --> HH/DC or M2M --> HF/HH/DC?

If you download the problem sets as PDFs and open them with Preview, it will allow you to draw and type on the PDFs.

Wow, that's great improvement!! I was curious how much time it took you to review one PT when you combined BR with your own method? Any more info about your studying processes would be very helpful too! Thanks for sharing your experiences!! Happy Holidays to you too!

The "only...when" in the stimulus means: Not machine → Not commercially feasible.

This matches (B): Only by hand (Not machine) → Not commercially feasible.

Could anybody help me explain why D is wrong? Is it because it says "at an average rate"? That implies weigh gain is not necessarily a bad thing? Thank you in advance!

Words ending with -ee designate the person affected by someone else's action. The word "absentee" is a counterexample. To make things clear, if a word ending with -ee refers to one party in a two-party transaction, it refers to the party being affected.

MOR: limit the use of a principle to a two-party scenario.

A. "Misanalysis" of the example is not supported.

B. The argument doesn't dismiss the counterexample, and the counterexample is important.

C. "All" generalizations have exceptions? Not supported.

D. Yes, the argument does limit the scope of its application.

E. "Spurious" is not supported.

Art historian: Robbins cannot pass judgement on Stuart's art. Robbins understands the art of Stuart too well to dismiss it, and she does not understand it well enough to praise it.

Assumption:

Dismiss & PraisePass judgement

Pass judgement → Dismiss or Praise

A. Yes, this is the contrapositive of the argument.

B. Mismatch.

C. It fails one of the sufficient conditions. Irrelevant.

D. This is a general statement about Stuart's art. We only care about Robbins.

E. Not the assumption.

MTB Argument: If any of its corporate sponsors had withdrawn their financial support, the GE group would have been forced to disband this year. But the group has been able to operate throughout the year and has announced its schedule for next year.

Withdrawn → Disband

Disband

--------------

Withdrawn

Looking for not withdrawn.

A. Very good.

B. Other sources of funding for next year? to make it less dependent? On idea.

C. "Increasing" is too specific to be true.

D. Don't know such a comparison.

E. "For groups like the GE" is not relevant.

I got this question right by eliminating the four wrong answers during the timed PT. But, I'm still confused about the language in the first sentence. It essentially says everyone is permitted to swim at some time during each day THAT it is open. I wonder if "that" here can be understood as a sufficient condition or it is something telling us the pool is opening every day? Would appreciate any input!

1st: half were approved (30 out of 60)

2nd: 30 approved. 1/4 was not approved, meaning 3/4 approved (3/4=30). So, we know the total number is 40, which is less than 60.

A. Before? the stimulus doesn't say how many were published before 1712.

B. The first censor prohibited more books.

C. Correct. This is the inference.

D. Have no idea about the criteria.

E. "Writers who wrote" is not the same as "writers who submitted".

The ancient Greeks failed to recognize that democracy is not morally better than monarchy. It's wrong for an individual to have the power to choose. So it's at least as equally wrong for a society to choose. Society is a collection of individuals.

Prediction: Part to whole flaw

A. Robin's friends are not a collection of Robins.

B. This is a past-future relationship.

C. "Anyone else in similar situations" is not a collection of one person.

D. Correct, no member of the club can afford, so the club is unable to afford.

E. This is reversed (Society to Individuals).

In saying complying is useless, P only concerns addressing the underlying causes to prevent the fire. Q brings up the financial reasons to comply with the regs. Thus, Q does extend the basis/ scope for assessing the question at hand.

Ticks won't drop off before they are feed. Deer ticks drop off their hosts during the day between noon and sunset. Their hosts, white-footed mice, are nocturnal animals, spending the daytime in their nests.

Inference: deer ticks drop off in the mice's nests.

A. Attractive, but the stimulus never says when they attach.

B. Contradict with the first premise.

C. Correct, deer ticks have to get off in the afternoon when the mice are in their nests.

D. Aware? Irrelevant

E. Don't know about this.

For D to be correct, we have to make at least two assumptions:

1. mainstream theory = fact?

We have to distinguish that theories and facts are different; a theory can be used to explain facts, but it would be absurd to say Darwin's theory of evolution is a fact. Same here, neither the typological theory nor the mainstream theory can be called a fact.

2. unacceptable = false?

A large set of data always contains false information, yet this kind of data set is acceptable.

The two concepts might sometimes overlap, but one is subjective and the other is objective.

P1: Assumptions (that...) → Widely Accepted

P2: Widespread Acceptance (that individuals are incapable..) → Harmful to Democracy

C: Value democracy → Should not pass paternalistic laws

Trying to connect and identify the [gap]

Harmful to Democracy ---> W. Acceptance ---> [Assume --> Should not pass paternalistic laws]

AC E is the contrapositive of the gap: proposing paternalistic laws → Assume (individuals are incapable of...)

Hi JY, thanks for the explanation!

For A and C, it's easier for me to see Ilana doesn't mention the ideas of "compassionate" and "humorous". It's less clear for me to see if Gustav really means what A and C are saying since the words "truly" and "appropriately" in the answer choices sound like an evaluation. Would appreciate any comments. Thanks!
