Scores Dipping in the 80s

Hi everyone,

I'm planning to take the LSAT in two weeks and have been studying consistently since February. I've taken about 20 PTs so far. In the 70s, early 80s, and PT 88, I hit my target of 167+ (breaking into 170 territory). However, I'm now working my way through the mid-80s and my scores have dipped. This past week and a half, I've taken 83-87, scoring consistently at 165, which is lower than what I want. I'm now doubting whether I'm ready for the real deal, or if I'm just starting to experience some burnout. I've noticed a larger number of errors on LR in particular. Any advice on how to proceed here? Thank you!

Hi! I'm taking it in November as well. Diagnostic was 160... 80% thru core curriculum so I'm targeting high 160s/low 170s as well. jharrison.berg@.com

For LG, it really is practice, practice, practice. I would advise doing a ton of timed sections for LG until you start noticing patterns. Don't do a ton of PTs right now, especially newer ones, because you need to focus on LG fundamentals. If you get a game wrong or took too much time, do it again and again until it all clicks under the time limit.

This will also help with misc games. Even though they don't follow a traditional format, the types of inferences that need to be made are very similar to those that you'll be making elsewhere.

I spent my first month of studying just on LG and saw my biggest score improvement doing that. On test day, I think LG has the potential to trip you up the most too so dedicate your time there for now.

In terms of time, just tell yourself that you should finish the first 2 games in about 15 minutes. Some questions will take longer than others and that is totally okay! JY recommends doing the questions first that offer additional premises (i.e. if J occurs on Monday and K occurs on Tuesday...). Spend a little time up front drawing out game boards and figuring out inferences. If a question really has you stumped, just move on and come back. With that said, don't jump around too much. You don't want to waste time going back and forth between games.

Take a break from a bad PT. No more LSAT that day. In the next few days, do a very thorough BR and evaluate where you went wrong. Don't let one test throw you off too much but also notice when trends start to occur.

Best of luck to you!

Yes you should-but be careful not to use too many. I unfortunately thought June was going to be one and done test and only have 3 clean recent PTs left. So yes, use recent ones, but with the caveat to leave some left just in case. Remember, the fundamentals will be the same for PTs 40s+. So, I would do timed sections from older tests and then do PTs in the newer tests, leaving 7-8 of them untouched.

Is there a way to know which LG section was experimental? I had security guards on one and boutiques on the other. I screwed up the security guard game and would cancel if that is not the experimental.

I personally would worry about burning out like that. At this point, I would take 2 more MAX. You're not going to learn much more from here on out. Now, it's just about timing and keeping nerves under control. I personally am taking 1 more tomorrow. I will review it and then just do a couple section sections in the days leading up to Sunday.

Hello to anyone working at 7sage. Is there anything in the pipeline that will add an experimental sectional to the PTs?

Hi there,

Yes, we are currently looking into this. Unfortunately, we don't have a roll-out date or any other details yet. Sorry!

Could you elaborate on what you did after the 159 to refocus? I scored a 161 after about a year as well. PTed around 167 and have until August to get up to where I want.
