Amen! I went on a 5-day trip to Hong Kong for a wedding and came back more motivated than ever! I was so burnt out and worried before the break but so thankful for it after!

What to ask for in a LOR?

What are law schools looking for in a LOR?

My professors told me to figure out the academic and non-academic traits I would like to include in the LOR and then they will tell me if they could write it for me. What would be traits that catches law school admissions' eye when they read my LORs?

Thank you!

@ oh ok...would I have to time myself for every question to make sure I finish under a minute? How can I build myself up to the speed?

It sounds like a great strategy, btw.

For RC, I’d write down what I got from each paragraph after I read it. I’ll try the pencil thing, maybe it will help.

@ yah I am. I’ve been drilling untimed sections and BR-ing for LR. What else should I do?

Sorry I’m not familiar with “25 in 25 minutes” would you mind explaining?

I space out a lot and very often I have to go for a second reading after I’ve completed a paragraph in RC, is really awful but I don’t seem to be able to understand it on first try, usually.

@

I am at 161 now and just trying to get over 165. I am usually -0 in LG and sometimes I'd get a -1. My LR and RC are my weakest. Usually I get -6 and sometimes a -8.

I took the June 2017 test and got 154. I began this program early July and had just finished the core curriculum. Did my first PT today and got a 160! I have two months to push for a couple more points. I think you can totally break 160!

@ I've been studying since last July. Started with a 154, currently scoring around 158-164. 20 points increase sounds like a dream, how did you do it?

Also, what do think about uci?

Hey!

Just got my first acceptance last week and it was not my first choice but seeing how this cycle is going it might be my only choice.... so now I am stuck between the choice of going or wait till next cycle and would really like to get your opinion on the matter (it's a big decision!)

Option 1: Go (oh it's BYU btw)

Pros:

  • CHEAPPPPP AF (they offered me a 1/4 merit scholarship so it's basically $5000/semester)
  • I know a lot of people in the area and could get a lot of great jobs and internships (I already have one offer for this summer if I am going to Utah)
  • Cons:

  • UTAH D:
  • Not T15
  • Honour code (but that's another issue)
  • Option 2: Don't go and move to California

    Pros:

  • I can try for California schools again next cycle
  • Going to LA is great for my husband's career (he is in music composition for visual media eg. movies/video games)
  • T15/20
  • Cons:

  • Debt debt debt
  • Expensive housing (more debt)
  • Don't know how long we would have to wait
  • I currently have a 161 and 3.74, applied to BYU (duh), UCLA, USC, Berk, UT, but I doubt I'll get into any of the other schools this cycle. Let me know what you think? I keep getting the "Top15 or don't go" vibe, is that true?

edit: Might I add that BYU is flying me out from Dublin to Utah next weekend to admitted students day so I could check out the school. They spent like $1k on the ticket and I feel like a superstar.

    Improving RC

I am going through the curriculum and get about 1 wrong per passage. I usually complete a passage & its questions under 8.5 minutes. The low resolution summaries have been very helpful but I still get -1 per passage. I am just wondering if my results will improve overtime as I do more RC practices or should I do something else to improve my accuracy?

What has been the biggest help for you?

Choice #1 is UCLA or USC, mostly because of their location. I don't like LA but my husband is in the entertainment industry (film & video games music composition) and would be the best place for his career development. There are also some good school and would likely put in a good position when I get out of school.

Low reaching school would be University of Washington. Low reaching because I am almost 100% sure I can get in. Chose the school because I like Seattle and has a good-sized video game community.

High reaching school would be NYU. I am also a Canadian and am interested in returning to Vancouver some day. NYU as a joint Canadian-US J.D. that I would love to be able to get in. NY's video game and film community isn't bad either.

    Irrational Fear

Hey so I have this irrational fear of being overlooked in the admission process because I am a Chinese-American who's family is solid middle class (so can't make any great donations and I can't say I have some hero struggle back story either). #chineseadmissiondisadvantage

I have a friend (when applying for undergrad) who had outstanding achievements in high school (like A student, SAT 2400, and national champion in math or something) but really only got into one of her choice schools. She was wealthy too. This story just did not help with my irrational fear.

This irrational fear affects me as I complete my application and I don't know what can I do to cope with it.

    What's your BR process like?

I have a google doc that is dedicated to BR. Depending on the question type I type up the necessary information in the document, for example if it's a flaw question I would write down the conclusion/MP, support, gap, answers analysis, and my final answer. I go through every question. I like it because it forces me to break down my thought process, but it takes a lot of time and I am just curious as to how other 7Sagers do it.

Got it wrong even but eventually understood the stim. Hard to interpret but this is my version of it... Perception can't be...(blah), because there are many not perceptible things that are (blah).

It kind of translate to me as "apples are not fruit because there are many non-apple things that are fruits"

Might not be correct, but that's how I understood it. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Dilemma: More PT or More BR?

    Hey guys! Two questions.

I am going to take the test in December, which coming up pretty quickly. My timed tests are consistently at 160 and my BRs are 166-170.

Would I be able to make my BR score a reality in two months?

Also, I am currently doing two PTs a week and BRs between the two, but I have trouble concentrating when doing BR and so even just the two days between the two PTs feels like it's not enough time for me to learn much.

Should I switch to doing only one PT a week and spend the rest of the week with BR?

Should I write a Diversity Statement?

Hey guys, I am debating whether I should write a diversity statement or not. I am already writing about a socio-economic challenge that I overcame in my socio-economic addendum and I don’t really have a topic to write for my diversity statement aside from the fact that my family was dirt poor but we still moved around the world in search of a better place to live and so I got to live in different cultures and learned to adapt. Is that a good enough topic? Because I don’t see how that could contribute to the classroom discussions. Maybe I just don’t know enough of what they want

    Taking too many tests?

Hey I already took 3 official tests but they all came back less than satisfactory. I’m planning on taking the June and Sept one this year. That’ll be 5 tests in my file, is that too many? Is there a point where schools will say “no that’s too much”?

Can I not report my Feb score?

So I just got my feb score and really screwed that one up. My Dec test score is higher than the feb score. I already told schools that I will be taking the Feb test so they are waiting for my score. Should I and can I call the schools to tell them I don’t want to report my Feb score? Or would that not matter because my highest score is my Dec score and they won’t bother with my new score?

    Thanks ??

It seems like you aren't in the best headspace for taking the february exam. Whats been your PT average and what sections are your weakest?

I'm panicking and stressing out, but I feel like I have to do it because I already told law schools I'll take it. My PT average hasn't improved since Dec and so it's still around 160/161. LR and RC are my weakest. LG I can consistently score a -0 or -1.

I've been trying really hard at BR and really taking every question apart.

    What to do?

What should I do if I already told law schools I'm going to take the Feb test but I know that I won't perform very well on it?

My applications are already in. GPA 3.74 Last LSAT 161. Really want to get into some reaching schools like USC and UCLA. Should I mentally prepare myself for rejections and apply again next cycle?

Write down what I think I did well on and what needs to be improved over the next couple months

Play video games for a week

Start studying again after the week

    Confirm action

    Are you sure?
