I cry, a lot. LSAT 50, Gia 5.

It has been an incredible 2 months of study. I have made great strides, but the frustration level is intense. My drive to succeed is too great to quit.

I'm starting on my fifth week with 7Sage tomorrow. I haven't taken a full PT as of yet, but I am drilling individual sections, and am improving with both accuracy and speed. However, I am failing horribly at the flawed descriptive weakening questions. I hardly get any of them right. I've studied the common argument flaws, I have watched the videos explaining them... and I am still missing the right answers. I break the passage down to get what is context, premise, and conclusion, and I look for answers that show the flaws in the conclusion, but I usually pick the wrong answer. Can anyone advise me on what to do... what am I missing?

My small, southern, private college has been the hardest thing I've ever done... Though, my LSAT studies this summer may be a leap ahead. This is coming from a person who has parented a son who's about to go into the US Army, and co-parented 2 girls who are now in college.

@ No... though that would be cool! I'm attending a small, Quaker, private college in the south. Good school.

aww... thank you @.hopkins I am finishing up last year getting my undergraduate degree in peace and conflict studies. I want to be a voice for those who don't have one... But... gotta get through this damn LSAT first, lol! You are very kind.

@ I've been at it since May 28, and I feel smarter too! I am having to completely change the way I think, and I have benefited from my studies in so many ways. Even if I don't get to the score I want, this time has not been wasted at all!

@ In my 2 months of study, I've had a pity party a couple of times when feeling defeated. It really is a hindrance to studying. Put in the time and commitment, and I have no doubt you'll get there. 7Sage is an amazing program. My only regret is that I can't afford more of the videos and lessons. Good luck!

Thank you @.janson35

I am afraid to take time off, because I feel I have so little time to prepare. In the last four days, I've already put in about 35 hours. Plus, I'm a mom, and my son is getting ready to go into the US Army, so I'm a bit distracted. Because I'm so tired today, I decided to go back and watch the grammar videos. My thought is, perhaps I'm doing so poorly on the RC because I'm missing some basic stuff.

Thank you all, so much for the support. Yesterday, I was in a bad place and ready to quit. Your support is helping to refuel my ambitions!

I've only taken 2 full PTs under timed conditions, my diagnostic, and one other. Scores were same, though I felt better about the second one. Time is an issue for me. RC is a disaster. When I BR... I add about 15 to 20 points. You helped me to feel so much better @ ! Thank you! Perhaps, in the next few weeks, I can improve my score greatly as I take more tests. I just ordered the trainer... so I'm hoping that will help.

Does anyone have any advice on how to combat fatigue? I have been studying 4 to 8 hours a day, taking 1 to 2 days off a week, since May 28. I am getting so tired. I'm dreaming LSAT questions every night. My brain is fighting to focus at this point... but I need to keep going.

One of my professors said she studied for a month and got a 169. Some people are just already ready, without much prep. I, on the other hand, have been studying for almost 2 months and am still testing in the low 140s. Everyone is different. I am having to completely change the way I think, and it has been a struggle. I have learned so much from my studies though. I suggest, take a test, under timed conditions, and see where you are. You can take the test in December and still get into law school next fall. Good luck!

Looks like one person has me beat. I'm 45. I'm finishing up my last year getting my undergraduate degree in peace and conflict studies. I'll be 46 when I graduate, and hopefully starting law school. I feel old some days.... but really, I'm so excited for my new beginning, that keeps me going. I really wanna dig into The Constitution, and shake up a few lawmakers... work on human rights, and be that voice for those who are unheard. But first... I got to get through this damn LSAT!!!!! UGH!

Thank you so much! Your advice is helpful. I'm def gonna work on stressing less and focusing more, especially on my reading speed. I'll buy some pt, and the trainer, and just keep practicing.

Pacifico, I do make copies of the games and redo them. I try it on my own before watching the video, watch the video, then do it again. I put a copy away and revisit it either later in the week or early in the next week. When I do this, I always remember every single inference, but I wasn't thinking about the time it took me to do it. I'm going to do them all again, but time myself to see if I'm not only remembering the inferences and steps, etc., but how long it is taking me to complete them. I suppose if I keep doing it long enough, I'll just see it more quickly.

Yes... please let me know if you or anyone has any more suggestions for me. I'm going to keep at it!!!!

Thank you, again!

Making Inferences more quickly

Hello,

I started/purchased the 7Sage Starter on May 31, 2015. That was actually the first day I started studying for the LSAT (I haven't used any other materials, and I've gone through about 75% of the Core curriculum). In order to get into the law school I want to go to, I need to score around a 155 because my GPA is 3.66. Anything above a 155 would be icing on the cake. I have really been working on the logical reasoning, and I am comfortable with where I am with those. The timed tests I take show me only missing around 7 or 8 (I score a lot better without the time restraints). However, on the Logic Games (which I really just started focusing on in the last week and a half or so), it takes me 45 minutes to an hour to get through all of the questions in a section because I'm really slow at seeing the inferences. My improvement has come in that I'm now able to look at a game and immediately see what kind of game it is (85% of the time), what kind of board to draw, where the pieces fit in, etc. The first time I take a test, I miss around half of the questions, but again, it takes me 45 minutes to an hour to get through them. When I blind review, I can get that down -3 to -6.

My question is, with me being at 7 weeks of studying, does this sound on track? I am signed up to take the October LSAT. Do you have any tips or suggestions on how I can learn to make inferences quicker? Will that just come with practice? I'm spending 4 to 6 hours a day, 5 to 6 days a week studying.. so I'm committed and would love any suggestions anyone may have. Also, for the RC... I read really slow. Any advice on how to get faster? In a timed RC section, I only get through about half of the questions. On my first timed LSAT, which I took about a month ago to see where I was, I scored a pathetic 138. (When I don't have time restrictions, I can add about 20 points to that).

Thank you, in advance! I just gotta say... I'm so grateful I stumbled upon 7Sage. I'm quite certain it has saved my ass!!!!

(PS: I'm living on student loans, so I don't have the dough for a lot of extra stuff... so any suggestions you make about buying extra (like the LSAT Trainer vs. the Powerscore Bibles), please list them in most valuable to least).

Wow. I don't have $90 to spare right now. I won't get my college reimbursement money until around the 15th of September. Ugh! Well... hopefully I'll get where I need to be by then. I signed up and paid at the end of April, naively thinking, 6 months would be plenty of time. My thought was, there is no math... I got this. Boy, did I underestimate this one!!!!

Thanks for the info!

If you have already signed up and paid for the October test, is it possible to cancel that test time, and move it to December or February, or are you locked in once you're signed up?

Thank you, all! I have gotten much better than where I was when I wrote this post originally. Still much left to do. Took a few days off. Celebrated my son's 18th birthday, and he leaves for basic training in a few days. My focus needs more focus! lol

I guess this is where I was confused then. In the logical reasoning sections, I'm missing 10 to 13 questions, so I thought I would go back and study basics. I guess I was thinking that the lawgic was to be used to learn how to figure out all question types. I've got the diagramming down for the games, as it makes sense to me there... but I couldn't figure out how to apply it to the logical reasoning. So... I guess it's because it doesn't always apply. What types of questions would I use the lawgic on, and can you demonstrate one or two here, or does that go against LSAC copyrights?

Lawgic

I've decided to take a break from PTs, and go back over the basics. I think one of my weaknesses is taking the Lawgic that we were taught, and applying it to the questions. So... if I can get someone to breakdown for me EXACTLY WHY and HOW we put questions into lawgic. Simplify for it me. How does it help with logical reasoning and reading comprehension questions, and then apply it to a question. I think this will help to unlock whatever block I'm feeling about understanding how this works exactly.

let's use a question I get wrong every time. Test 29 Section 1 Question 7.

Find the logical operator?

Identify two main concepts

Assign symbols to the 2 main groups

Apply translation rule

Find contrapositive

Translate back to English

@ Not so much. Money is not a motivation for me. I know that in my area, there aren't a lot of people doing what I want to do. I will not get rich... not even close, but I will be successful. I'm sure of it!

I want to go to my local law school. Just opened in 2006 by Law professors from Duke and Wake Forest. They are making a name for themselves, and creating a lot of new ways to teach and learn. Elon school of Law ( www.elon.edu/law ). Because they are so new, the competition is in my ball park. My GPA is 3.66, so if I get a 155+ on the LSAT... I can qualify for a full scholarship. A free law degree would be amazing, and their program is 2.5 years. They have 2 trimester years, and then in your L3, you graduate in December. That last trimester, they begin helping you to study for the Bar and prepare you to take and pass it in February after graduation.
