Ironically I posted the very same question earlier yesterday and withdrew my June 10th because I did not feel fully prepared. The advice I was given, if I may paraphrase, was that unless you feel absolutely ready and you've done the proctored timed exams and have a score your comfortable with then you could be doing more harm than good.

Thank you to all, I was leaning towards the withdraw anyway and after reviewing the commentary and my options, I withdrew this morning. And quite frankly, notwithstanding the loss of the fee, I feel much more relaxed knowing I have the time to do this properly. This is an excellent forum and glad it offers the opportunity to discuss so many things that might also help other students.

Cancel, Withdraw, or Just Do it?

I am in a bit of a quandary and open to any thoughts. I was scheduled for the June 10th and wanted to schedule for October - for whatever reason I was unable to change the date and I am now stuck for the June 10 which I am not ready for. That leaves me with the following possibilities and I am trying to assess the implications of each.

1. Withdraw - I lose the money on the fee but so be it, at least I haven't wasted one of the few exams were allowed to take

2. Take the exam and cancel the result just to get the experience of trying the exam - question, can we see a result before we cancel?

3. Take it just for the experience and do not worry about it, rebook the 2nd in October?

I have till a few days before June 10 to decide, any thoughts welcome. I have studied a lot but just do not feel ready and still had a lot of material to still go through.

I would agree with Kyle; this is one of my stronger areas so it will not require nearly as much preparation. Having said that, I believe it is good practice to see how they expect it structured and to practice a few 2 page essays based on the criteria. Usually, if I recall, it is based on arguing in favor of some position given a set of criteria.

I must agree with J.Y, burning through tests really can be very counterproductive. After all what if you did the June test and got a score somewhat less than you need and rebooked a 2nd for Oct - then you wouldn't have any to work with.

I took a somewhat different approach. Once I read through the basic concept and how selection criteria are provided, I just use the commute downtown now and then to write out a 2 page essay 1-2 a week to pass the time.

Great thread - likewise I just moved my exam to October - some areas that I was just still unsure of - and better to take the time to do it right.

I would argue retaking is extremely valuable. First, from other forums, it is my understanding many students "burn through" all the PT's too quickly; they just go from one to the next but do not really understand why they missed questions so they do not really improve. Second, consider the strategy discussed in the games section (of redoing a game 10X till you "own it"...the same could be said of a PT.

The trick (I think) is not just going back and getting the right choice - its really grasping why the logic failed the first time or to get that kind of question right within the amount of time. If it is still taking 8 mins to answer a PSA than perhaps something isn't clicking etc.

Drats, I had read a blog on LSAT Blog on the demise of the LSAT only to discover it was an inside joke; sigh, wishful thinking ;)

I have the dubious distinction of having to take a very long train the same morning to do my exam at the University of Western Ontario (they didn't have any slots in Toronto); I would guess the best way to spend that time is, as you note, an easy game, refresh on the different quantifiers etc etc.
