Most is a restrictive version of "some", it means "more than half"

We know that "Fewer than half" can be interpreted as "most not"

Therefore, we must interpret that LESS than half of the kittens adopted yesterday went home with children. Fewer than half of the kittens adopted means that more than half of the kittens are not adopted. It is like looking at "most" in the opposite way (most not).

So translated we get: kitten ‑m→/home-children
