If you step away from a prep test, close the tab. You can come back to the test by clicking "Prep tests" and then clicking the one you were taking. It should say "In Progress" next to it.

From my POV, there isn't anything in the sentence implying any kind of present tense language. The only two verbs (accustomed and maintained) are past tense.
