Is the 7Sage Admission Course worth it?

Has anyone purchased the 7Sage Admissions Course? Is it worth the sticker price? We're down to one income due to Covid-19 and $3K for me right now might as well be $50k lol but if it's worth the fee, I will try to find a way to pay it.

Getting Tripped up by Time

Does anyone else have this problem? When I do a section or a problem timed I get completely flustered because my mind is constantly under pressure and wondering if I'm taking too long. The second I decide to do the same section untimed, I notice I do the questions faster and get them all right. I'm sure others have encountered this. What did you do to get past the time stress?

How early should I schedule my test?

Hi all; I am hoping to write the test in June 2018 but if I am not PTing where I want by May, I was going to wait until September. How quickly do testing centers fill up? Should I go ahead and book my seat now just in case or can I wait until closer to my tentative testing date to see if I am anywhere near PTing at my goal?

Note: I am just finishing up the CC and am going to move on to phase 2 but am afraid I won't be ready by June because I work full time and can only dedicate around 12 hours a week to studying. A part of me feels like I should book it so I can have more motivation to try and put in more study hours to make it to June but the other part of me doesn't want to rush the process.

For URMs still in Undergrad...

This program may already be well known among students (being that I'm 31 I may just be out of the loop) but just in case few have heard of it I thought I would share. If you are an underrepresented minority and still in undergrad, consider applying to the TRIALS program.

A little about it -

"Trials is a unique partnership of Harvard Law School, NYU School of Law, and the Advantage Testing Foundation. It is a fully subsidized summer study program for students of modest means whose backgrounds are currently underrepresented at the nation’s top law schools."

Sounds like a great opportunity to get exposure into Law School life.

Hi all,

So I'm feeling bummed out because I'm a month behind in studying - I was sick for 3 weeks and could barely study during that time then had a family reunion overseas during Thanksgiving and wasn't able to study at all. I was on track to complete the CC by December 31 and want to make sure I make that deadline as I've been studying the core curriculum for 7 months now and would like to move on to the next step by the new year as I am aiming for June 2018 testing date.

So my question is - has anyone skipped some of the LG section on the CC since they were planning on doing the LG Bundle? I've completed about half of the LG section in the curriculum and am thinking of skipping the rest to complete the last RC questions buy 12/31 so I can stay on track. I plan on doing the LG bundle, so am thinking skipping this last bit of the section won't be a big deal.

Is this a bad plan?

@ I've certainly had better study days the pregnancy and future mommy duties are def taking over but I'm sure I'll win in the end :) I'm so happy for you and this next journey! You have to come back and keep us updated!

Hello everyone!

A couple weeks ago I posted a discussion and many people thought it would be a great idea to have a thread dedicated to helpful tips for those who have to balance working full-time with their study routine. Well here's the thread! I've tapped @"Cant Get Right" and @LSATcantwin, two Sages who worked full time while studying and still managed to score 170+ on the LSAT, to give us some helpful tips on what we can do to beat this test all while working 40+ hour weeks, taking care of families, running errands and all around keeping our lives afloat. Below are their answers in a Q&A Format, and I gotta say, it's some GREAT advice. So if you're feeling overwhelmed with work and study, definitely take a few minutes to read. I've also included the recording from @"Accounts Playable" 's AMA from 1/8/18 below. Starting at ~42 min he gives some awesome tips to those who go to school full time and are studying as well. Happy Reading + Happy Studying!

Q&A with @LSATcantwin

Score Range

Diagnostic: 151, Attempt 1: 157, Attempt 2: 163; Attempt 3, 171

Length of study time

Year and a half (May 2016 - Dec 2017). From May 2017 until October 2017 I studied about 20 hours a week.

What successful study habits did you incorporate into your routine while working full time?

Lunch became dedicated LSAT time. It was an extra hour I got to throw into the mix each day. I would eat and review questions or do LG. Half my commute was spent on public trans, I would do LG or study LR on the train as well.

What was your ideal study schedule and how did that help you reach your goal score?

Monday - Friday; Get to work an hour early and study. Study during my hour lunch break, study 2 hours or so at night when I got home. (4 hours or so a day) (2 hours at night included blind review of my Sat PT); Saturday; Timed PT; Sunday; rest.

How did you find the time to juggle work with studying?

Basically just took any "free time" I could find and dedicated it to LSAT.

What concrete tips can you give those who are struggling working full time while studying part time?

Burnout is real and it isn't only the LSAT that can cause it. Remember to give yourself breaks, down time and sleep. Don't compare yourself to other people studying. Lots of people are going to be studying full time or only working part time. They might make faster progress than you, but you'll still make progress I promise. Time management is key. With 40 hours a week dedicated to our job free time is hard to come by. It is even more limited when you have other responsibility to worry about (children, dishes, cooking, cleaning, friends, family...) I gave up running and working out for more time. Because I love cheese I gained about 20lbs over the year and a half....Time to start running again! haha! Remember to be as open as you can with your employer/family/friends. I sent a massive text to all my friends explaining my situation. I apologized and told them I was not ignoring them or blowing them off. I made it clear that my goal was T-14 and I was working my butt off to get there. My friends understood and did not hold it against me. I did much the same with my family.

What were some mistakes you learned during your study process?

Don't do things that are unnatural for you. I tried waking up before work (at 4am) to study more. My body hated this, and in turn, I got nothing out of those hours of studying before work. Don't try and break yourself. Slow and steady will win the race. Don't be afraid to take extra time to study. Working full time will slow us down. Don't create a timeline. The LSAT isn't going anywhere, so make sure you are getting the score you want before you take the plunge.

Any other tips for success?

If you can't teach something to someone else, you probably don't understand it yourself. During my studying I spent a TON of time on 7Sage. My favorite posts were specific to questions. I would open them immediately and try and type out an answer that explained the question. In so doing I was able to spot many weaknesses because sometimes I couldn't explain why the right answer was correct. Other times I'd be able to explain it with relative ease and these were questions I knew I understood.

Q&A with @"Cant Get Right"

Score Range

Diagnostic: high 140's,

Officials: 163, 162, 170, 176

Length of study time

Two years+ (Summer 2015 - Sept 2017).

What successful study habits did you incorporate into your routine while working full time?

I set a very low daily minimum study time--one hour most days. One hour is manageable on the worst of days, and so it always got me started which was frequently the hardest part. I enjoyed studying and so I often found myself engaged and wanting to continue. Other days, I didn't. On those days, I fulfilled my minimum daily requirement and allowed myself to leave it at that without guilt. Studying for the LSAT requires high energy, and when the energy isn't there the returns on study time are going to be miniscule. Recharging and managing your energy is essential. In all seriousness, I learned to view taking one night off a week to eat pizza and catch up on TV as an essential part of my study routine.

What was your ideal study schedule and how did that help you reach your goal score?

Morning before work was always best. After work, there was very low chance of having the energy to study at a high level. I began going to bed earlier and earlier in order to create more and more study time before work. This allowed me to, in at least some small way, prioritize LSAT over work. Work took more of my time, but LSAT got me at my freshest.

How did you find the time to juggle work with studying?

Strict scheduling. Time management must be done proactively which was not something I was really used to. For the first time, I made a google calendar and began chopping my days into blocks. I accounted for as much as I could. Work went down first. Then sleep. Then LSAT. Then everything else. And the everything else is really important, so you have to leave space for it. I tried to be ambitious at first and devote every waking hour away from work to LSAT and that burned me out real fast. Flexibility is also important. Sometimes you just need to take a week off when you just can't stand to look at the test anymore. One time, I was taking a PT on my day off and I had a total meltdown. You can't let it get to that point.

What were some mistakes you learned during your study process?

I didn't adjust my timeline to my reality. I thought I could work full time and conquer the LSAT on the side in only a few months. This is a mistake many people make, but I think it's particularly destructive for those of us who work. My best score while still working was a 163. I came a long way in that time and that was a score that would open a world of possibilities to me. I had enough savings to leave my job and study full time, so I acknowledge that my advances after that are perhaps of questionable value for those who aren't able to quit work. However, I do think it's worth acknowledging that most of the mistakes I made were not corrected until after leaving my job, and leaving my job was not a part of those corrections. I didn't even find 7Sage until after I quit working. Looking back on it, I realize that it is much more important to study correctly than to study full time. It just takes longer. Had I continued working but made the same shift in my mentality, I am positive I would have been successful. On the other hand, I could have studied full time for a decade without changing my mentality, and I know I would have never improved.

Any other tips for success?

Seek understanding rather than a score--understanding of logic, understanding of language, understanding of testing strategy, understanding of every component of taking the LSAT. If you achieve a higher level of understanding, a higher score will follow. If you chase a score, you will always be trying to push beyond your understanding rather than advancing it.

Very cool!

I tried researching this online but couldn't really find any answers --- I recently discovered that my CMO went to my dream school for undergrad. When I begin applying after taking the LSAT, I was not planning on asking my current employer for recommendations since I didn't want to let them know I was leaving for Law School until I was certain I got into a school. My question is - does having a good LOR from someone that went to the school you're applying to really give you a strong leg up? If it does, I will consider asking him for one even though I hadn't planned on cluing my employer in that early. But I don't think I'd want to if it didn't help get me in.

Side notes:

  • He attended undergrad in the 1950s -- so a very long while ago. I don't know if timing would make a difference
  • I think he would probably give me a good LOR since we work closely together and his feedback has been positive

Does this topic count as a Diversity Statement?

I am a URM and wanted to draft a diversity statement. However, my topic is not race related, but is based on a situation at work during my pregnancy where I was clearly discriminated against by my employer. Would this story count as a diversity statement? After I wrote it, I was worried it may come across more as a Personal Statement. Especially since, the type of law I want to go into is labor and employment and I tied the end of the statement into how the situation contributed to why I want to be a labor and employment lawyer. I know @"David.Busis" says this is a good thing to do in his admissions course, but I'm not sure if this would be right in this case.

Additional info: my Personal Statement also discusses why I want to be a labor and employment lawyer but the narrative is based on a situation I grew from while working as an HR practitioner.

It sounds great! Is it on Netflix?? I haven't seen advertisments for it.

No; it's playing in select theaters nationwide. Here in Dallas it's playing in more 'boutique' movie houses.

Speaking of Dallas where did you go to see it? I've never heard of either of these places lol. This movie sounds good so I might have to take a break and go check it out.

They had it at the Alamo for a while, the Angelika and Magnolia Theaters. Now the only place left it's playing is the Magnolia on McKinney downtown. Go see it before they stop playing it too! :)

Aww man I love the Alamo! They have the best fried pickles and that's saying something because I don't even like fried pickles lol. Oops read that wrong and thought you said downtown McKinney lol. Either way I will check it out. Thanks so much!

I seriously have become so spoiled because we hardly watch movies anywhere else now except the Alamo lol. I love their buffalo cauliflower appetizer! And the temptress shake before they took it off the menu :( I haven't tried the pickles yet!!

I love this thread! 31 here with one on the way. I’m currently finding it impossible to study since my new CMO combined my job with another coworker who recently left the company. Though they gave me a small raise (only after I demanded one) the workload is insurmountable and Once Home from work all I have energy to do is crash. I’m trying not to give up on my dream of becoming a Labor an employment lawyer but it’s getting harder and harder to stay motivated. Happy to see I’m not the only one struggling here.

SJW = Social Justice Warrior. Ya know... the purple haired basement dwelling types that feel the need enact swift and violent social justice on anyone who believes differently than they do, all in the name of tolerance and progress. Real peachy, fascist types.

Social justice warrior [Source: Wikipedia] (commonly abbreviated SJW) is a pejorative term for an individual who promotes socially progressive views, including feminism, civil rights, and multiculturalism, as well as identity politics.

Fascism [source Merriam-Webster dictionary] :a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.

Wow, now I'm really excited about the movie. I've never seen someone attribute two totally diametrically opposite political / social philosophies to the same entity. That must be an exciting and groundbreaking piece of cinematic art. Please don't tell me there is anything intentionally inflammatory or hyperbolic in your description which might cause me to be disappointed...

So working full time and not being able to study as much as I want is not only getting to me physically (I'm tired all the time) but emotionally - I find myself losing momentum during the week because work takes over and I'm slowly feeling like my law school dreams are impossible. I really want to go to a T14- preferably a T-7 but this process seems so impossible, sometimes I feel like giving up and just trying to get into SMU down the road (which is not a bad school just not what I envision for my journey). I second @. I am 31, and am currently working in Marketing and Public Relations. My marketing career path was honestly something I just had to try to see if I really liked it before trying for law school and I'm so glad I did. If I had gone straight for law I would have always wondered 'what if'. Now I know I absolutely love the law and it is definitely the career path for me. So my advice is to do other things you are wondering about first and if in 5 or so years, the law is still on your mind go for it with eyes wide open.

A great book to read, that I read when trying to decide if law was for me is Law School Confidential https://www.amazon.com/Law-School-Confidential-Revised-Experience-ebook/dp/B000FC1AB6. It gives honest insight into what Law school and a career in law is actually like. Good luck!

I think you see a lot of people taking breaks like someone echoed above. I studied for about six months under the LSAT Trainer, took a break for about four months then started 7Sage for about 9 months now with maybe two - one month breaks in that period. Working or going to school full time often puts a wrinkle in your plans but acknowledging that you can’t stop until you reach your goal helps with perseverance.

Saw this online and thought I'd share...

You are very lucky and privileged to have access to almost unlimited knowledge and you should appreciate that.

Be one of those rare people who step over their insecurities and succeed.

Only 5 minutes. Only today. (Repeat it 5 minutes later and every day)

You will know what to do as soon as you start. Ideas never appear from inactivity.

    Make yourself proud.

One hour every day doesn't feel like much but it's 365 hours a year. You can't not succeed after so much work.

It's not supposed to be easy. Nothing good is easy.

If you had a child to look after, you'd make them study because you want them to accomplish something. Don't you love yourself?

"Everything you want is on the other side of fear" - George Aair

Every mistake increases your chance to make progress.

If you give up now, you'll have to return to this later anyway but from the very beginning.

Let the process be your result.

Every moment you thought your fears would suppress you has become the time you made it.

Maybe you think you can never find something to use your skills and mindset for. But if you continue investing in what matters to you, it will find its way out there.

I allow you to think globally. You have the right to the boldest of dreams.

Anybody ever study during Maternity Leave?

I may be naive, but I'm really looking forward to doing some hard core, full-time studying during the 3 months I'm off for maternity leave. I work full time and am only able to study a few hours a night and half a day on weekends. I often wish I could just quit my job and study full time.

Any parents out there had the opportunity to study while on leave with a brand new baby? I keep hearing from some friends that they were 'bored' during their time off so I figured it'd be a great time to study all day but I also hear new babies typically take over your entire life :-P

    Confirm action

    Are you sure?
