Can someone provide me with an example of what "distorts an argument against X, and then attacks this distorted argument" would look like?

    This is similar to a "Straw Man Argument". Instead of attacking the author's viewpoint or argument, the flawed argument twists what the original author said and then attacks that.

    For example:

    You: The dogs at the dog park are well behaved. Therefore it is a nice dog park.

    Me: If this dog park were truly one of the best, it would be featured in the Doggo monthly magazine. The magazine makes no mention of it, therefore you must be wrong.

    I misinterpreted or twisted your argument to say that this dog park was one of the best and then attacked that argument.
