Recommendations from employer

Hi there,

I’ve been out of school for about 5 years now and have been working since then. I took the July LSAT and am working through my application. Unfortunately I’m no longer in communication with any of my professors, and I’ll have to request my recommendations from my current employer and a past client. I’m wondering if there’s anyone here who’s been in a similar situation. I was promised a promotion in January, but don’t want the likelihood of that decreasing when they do find out my long term plan is to leave and go to law school (fingers crossed I do get in). Thoughts? Your advice is so appreciated!

At the UVA application reader webinar last night, asking someone who left the company or someone who you could trust not to reveal your ultimate plans to go to law school to the rest of the company was recommended.

Also if you had a good relationship with professors when you were in school, I don't think it would hurt to reach out to them and rekindle the relationship.

I would wait and see what your score is and if it is what you want and you are applying this cycle then just be honest with your employer and tell them you plan to be leaving in next August and ask for the letter. Do you really care that much about a promotion if you're only there another six months?
