Will it hurt me if I don't fill out the areas that I am not required to fill out on an application?

What sections are you referring to? If it isn't required for your school, I would say its probably ok.

If there is a check box you can check that says the section doesn't apply to you then you can check that box. If not, you should be entering all pertinent information they ask for even if it is redundant. For example even though you are submitting a resume you should still fill out the whole employment section. It automatically populated after the first application you fill out so it isn't as much work as it sounds like.

Stuff like parent information is not a big deal though, if that's the kind of section you're talking about.
