According to the pacifist, it’s immoral to threaten to use force, even in self-defense. This is because it’s immoral to do anything that hurts other people, and using force hurts people.

The pacifist comes to a conclusion about making threats, but only draws on premises about the real use of force. In order to get from those premises to the conclusion, the pacifist must be assuming that threatening to do something immoral is also immoral.

This is irrelevant to the argument, which is concerned with the use of force in all situations, and doesn’t distinguish between aggressive and defensive uses of force.

Since we know that using force is immoral, this principle triggers to tell us that it is also immoral to threaten to use force. That effectively bridges the gap between the premises and the conclusion.

This just isn’t triggered by the premises, which never mention whether threats do more harm than good.

This straight-up contradicts the conclusion—the pacifist explicitly says that even threats made in self-defense are immoral.

This is a backwards version of the principle we’re looking for—it would be triggered by the conclusion that threatening force is immoral, and would lead to the premise that use of force is immoral. In other words, this just bridges the wrong gap.
