The author concludes that the eyes of an animals are adapted only to an animal’s needs rather than to some abstract sense of how a “good eye” should be designed.

Why makes the author think this?

Because even though the box jellyfish has lenses that are capable of producing sharp images that show fine details, the box jellyfish’s retinas are positioned in a way that prevents the jellyfish from getting more than a blurry image that shows only the prominent features of an object rather than fine details.
