Question Type

Application

This question asks us for the answer that describes a project that would not fall “within the scope of the provisions” in Passage B. Note that this isn’t asking us for something that violates the provisions in Passage B. We’re looking for something that the provisions in Passage B would not apply to.

If you understand what the question is asking for accurately, then you may be able to recognize that the answer could relate to the definition of UCH provided in the first sentence of Passage B: "Underwater cultural heritage" (UCH) means all traces of human existence that have been partially, totally, or periodically situated underwater for at least 100 years.

The rules in Passage B apply to UCH. So if something does not involve UCH, the rules wouldn’t apply.

The recovery of █ ██████ ██████████████████ ███████ ████████ █████ ██ ████████ █████████ ████████ ████████

This counts as UCH, because it involves “traces of human existence” underwater for at least 100 years. The 18th century refers to the 1700s, so anything underwater since then has been underwater for at least 100 years.

The recovery of █ ██████████████████ █████████ ██ ███████ ██████ ██ ███ ██ ███ █████ ██████

This counts as UCH, because it involves “traces of human existence” underwater for at least 100 years. The 19th century refers to the 1800s, so anything underwater since then has been underwater for at least 100 years.

The recovery of ██████████ █████████ ████ ███ █████ ██ █ ██████████████ ███████ ████ █████ ████ ███ ██████ ████ ████ █████ ████ ████ ███ ██████

This counts as UCH, because it involves “traces of human existence” underwater for at least 100 years. We don’t know exactly when “ancient” was, but that word implies something much older than 100 years ago.

The recovery of ███ █████ ██ █ █████████ █████ ████████ ████ ████ ████ ██ ████ ███ ███ █████ ██ ████████

A ship that sank in 1970 sank fewer than 100 years ago. That means it’s not considered UCH, and the rules described in Passage B don’t apply.

53%

The recovery of ███████████ ████████ █████████ ████████ █████████ ██ ███ ███████ ███ █████████ ██ █ █████ ██████

This counts as UCH, because it involves “traces of human existence” underwater for at least 100 years. “Prehistoric” is at least thousands of years ago.
