Georgetown may be the most popular law school: the ABA rankings show that it repeatedly gets more applications than any other program. As the top JD program in D.C., the proximity to the country’s political heart makes it a coveted destination for those who want to make things happen.
Georgetown’s application is interesting, too. Georgetown makes the case in their materials that they’re truly interested in a holistic review of applicants. In truth, they care particularly deeply about stats, as will any institution hanging out in the lower reaches of the T-14. But Georgetown does give you some unique opportunities in their app to showcase your personality beyond work and extracurriculars: their quirky 250-word statements and, for the lucky ones, their group interview.

Candidates choose Georgetown for D.C. politics and policy, the chance to begin their legal career in a highly relevant city, and the fact that it admits a ton of people compared to other T-14s. But it matters a lot to Georgetown that you’re not applying just because your chances might be better there.
Georgetown is also a bit tricky. It wants a Why Georgetown (Dean Andy explicitly said so in 2025), but doesn’t ask for one on the application. We recommend a 1-pager in the Optional Addendum section. As with any good Why X, it will need to go beyond what’s on the website, and, if you sincerely felt the Georgetown application was singular and delightful, it doesn’t hurt to say so, but make sure that isn’t the only reason. D.C. alone is also not a good enough reason; there are several law schools around D.C.
