    Thanks. Manhattan seems to place some crazy amount of emphasis on "the scale" above following the reasoning structures which seems a little weird to me. I don't understand why it's so popular.

    Also, RC needs a tl;dr at the end of each passage. :p

    It can be helpful to approach RC looking for what the different "sides" or POV's that are presented in a passage. That's the extent to which I've used the scale method. Didn't hurt because I saw it as a likely time sink from the outset.

    TD;DR: read for reasoning structure. Different POV's are elements of reasoning structure. If the scale helps you hone in on that, cool. Otherwise ...
